Return to Imp2 - an AAR
Went back to a previous game of Imp2

Playing on unpatched easy (difficulty of 50, IIRC)
Im France. Play my usual style of building up at home (which for France means quickly building a road south to the Pyrenees iron sources, getting food and wood on the way) quick conquest of a compact New world empire, cultivating minors (mainly Germany), avoiding alliances. Finally accepted an alliance with Holland (late 1500's). They dragged me into war with England, nothing to gain, but little to lose so I went along. Holland leaves the alliance and makes peace, so I follow suit.

Holland is hostile to Spain. They have some New world provinces I want, so i get an army into position, prepare to extend alliance to Holland again.

Next turn Spanish take Amsterdam!! Holland into anarchy. I quickly reposition, take the best Dutch new world province adjoining mine (one with diamonds) Swedes take the other ones I would have wanted. The only old world dutch province i want, Utrecht (which will lead me in the direction of Germany) is unfortunately defended by the best surviving Dutch army. Not worth it. So I allow the others to carve up Dutch old world provinces. I build up wealth and resources, and continue to cultivate Germany, and now Switzerland (which had been close to Holland) Its now 1688.
