Man, I'm not sure what to make of this game.
Played out the whole ancient era as the Incas this weekend. I REXed incredibly well, though I didn't make much use of the Chasqui scout. I also cranked my tech to the max almost the entire time. Hence, I was able to get into the tech lead fairly easily, on Monarch level (I had plenty of rivers). I found that, by prebuilding many wonders, I still lost out on most of them, however. I also found that by pursuing techs so heavily, I was in little position to fight back when the Aztecs attacked me, other than to build units from scratch - not hard to do, as my land was so fertile (due, I feel, to quick irrigation, lots of workers, and later, mining what I had irrigated).
A Maya city defected to me this game, as well - a nice reverse from an earlier Inca game in which one of my size 4 cities defected to the Americans.
Didn't do so hot when attacked by the Aztecs, and only got 1 wonder out of 5 I was building built! (oy, the grief)
Tech trading was also very intense this game - almost as intense as under PTW, making me wonder how much in general communications trading really pushes things back.
