Ming - I was close to doing that just a couple of days ago. I was playing against 2 AIs, and building the GL. One AI killed off the other, and I was going merrily along my way sending caravans to help build the GL. I was only a couple of turns from completing it when I realized the consequences of the dead AI (and switched to Colossus).

Whew!

I've got my own share of mistakes, forgetting a city with no troops and barbs popping up, tireme not finishing near land etc, but nothing major. The best classic cockup in my mind was by Kenthur. But I'll leave it to him to explain that one!...

Another classic was by Canadian War Beaver (formerly know as war4ever)... It's a story of dropping a nuke on a city, and not backing his own units away from the blast radius first... But I'll let him tell it, he does a much better job

However...i have some poor excuse. I was one turn before Navigation and i had 5-6 caravans ready. Since Oracle was only wonder available i used caravans to speed it up.
Next turn i got both Navigation and brain dead because i rush-build an Oracle and didn't bother to switch it to Magellan's.

CapTVK...KenThur retired from Civ and we have poor chance to find out what he did.

SF... was that in the Friday night game with rah

I once rush built a diplo to defend a one pop size city from two barbarian chariots...
You know, bribe one and then have him kill the other...
Too bad I used up all my money rush buying the diplo, and didn't have enough money left to bribe the unit.... DUH!

Simple really. In a mad moment of sheer unmitigated greed, in order to incorporate 2 specials within my city radius, I built my capital in a tree. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Growth at snail's pace. And if your early growth is badly hamstrung, you're behind the eight ball for a long time. Might've worked in 2x production, but this wasn't.

Once a time I left undefended a single island city next to the continent of my opponent. I thought he cannot take it over with standard units other then marines.

LOL... I learned it the hard way soon after a warrior had marched in!

and another one:

I had a nice island with mostly undefended cities. Usually, as soon as there are coming any invaders, I rushbuild the troops I need or rebuy the cities they take over.

Well, this time they came while I was in anarchy cause I wanted democracy (of course with no gold left). Four turnes later one half of the cities were taken over. Then finally I got democracy. Happy to get gold again (1000 bucks/turn) I maximized tax.

Too bad I didn't realize that the last city I built before was unhappy. The next turn, when city report starts, this city was second time unhappy and I fell in anarchy again.

And so the rest of my city changed their color in the following turns!

The old "my finger slipped" when moving a unit always leads to some fun situations.

I was playing in a mp game where even though I was "technically" at war with my neighbor, we were sending caravans to each other (we didn't want the person with Marco Polo to know we were no longer fighting/at war). He had just sent a gold caravan a very long way to establish a juicy trade route with my capital. Well, my finger "slipped" and instead of moving a crusader out of the city and down a different road, I killed the caravan... at least I got a vet out of it

I'm always a few units short. Everytime. One of my first MP games (against Rah, hehe), landed I think 3 ships loaded with units early in the game. Almost took a city but like always... just a couple of units more were needed. I've been so near taking a city so many times. Otherwise, I make no mistakes - thats right, Savage is perfect!

For the record, MWHC, all you needed was one more unit. The last defender was almost colorless. I now wait till I have enough, and I take my fair share of cities. But sometimes I am a couple of units short.

Slippery fingers are my favorites. For me it happens most when moving ships. I've lost a few fully loaded at sea. Attacked cities. (one when I had just convinced the person that we should try a non aggression pact) Fortunately since the ship didn't even nick the unit in the city, he believed that it was an accident.

My other favorites is sometimes forgetting to attack a barb king that has moved next to a city, since I didn't unfortify a unit in the city and just hit the end of turn just in time to go DOH.

Ming the infamous nuke heard around the world..... yes that did receive chuckles from the hecklers didn't it

i had stationed two and then eventually about 12 or so different troops on a mountain top with a fort in a game with Rah Ming and Bird..... it was Birds city i was blocking and our two empires......

Well i was first to nukes and although Rah attacked me and earned a nice little rep for himself and probably saved his butt, the real fun was the spy who planted the nuke and blew up the city and 12 of his own men..... on top of it all , i didn't take the city however white flags went up all across the board pretty darn quick when everyone realized i was an evil dictator .... i think this sums it up.... anything to add Ming ?

I've done some really embarrassing things. One which I've done more than once is come up to an enemy city and not notice that it has no defenders

Another is start a wonder I don't want while researching the one I do and then forget to switch over

Sinking ships? How many do you want mt to tell you about?

Forget to establish city? Move a unit to the wrong location? Forget to load or unload a ship at a critical time? Been there, done that

This happened last night and probably cost me a city. I had a size 8 mountain city blocking one of Ming's routes to my civ. He had a city two squares away, with only grassland in between. I didn't bother to build city walls b/c it would have been too easy for his dips to destroy them, plus I was on a mountain...... (what do you think of that AH?)....... My first mistake was just laziness. I quit paying attention to the city and forgot to build pikemen, instead relying on two phalanx and a warrior. But if I had built pikemen the rest of the stupidity wouldn't have had a chance to happen......

So out of the blue, Ming starts throwing crusaders at the city. He gets a lot of credit for coming prepared. He loses maybe 6 or 7 crusaders emptying out the city, attacking with each by moving over the grassland and either losing the unit or ending its turn there. Once the city is defenseless, he sends another 7 or 8 crusaders over the grassland to try to move into the city, but not one of the crusaders can move its second turn into the mountain square. So at the end of his turn, he must have at least a dozen crusaders right next to the city on grassland. (If he was playing against someone with brains, that would have been a huge mistake and he could be posting this.)

Now, boys and girls, let's say you were playing this game and had plenty of money to rushbuild whatever you wanted. Your choices are pikeman, horsie, chariot, and catapult (city improvements and dips seeming a bit inappropriate under the circumstances). What would you do?

That's right, I built a pikeman. What a moron. Needless to say, I got what I deserved.

By the way, I would have INCREMENTALLY built the appropriate unit had I been smart enough to build it at all.
