When FINALLY viewing the present save, I noticed we were building a ship to explore for pods and doubtless worms. Then I noticed it was a fullbore prototype Impact Cruiser. Why? I can think of several good reasons not to build this, but instead to build a 1-best Transport.

Firstly is the missions on which we will send this ship - what is it going to do? We do not appear to be at war with anyone, and a Military ship cannot pick up pods, surely one of the best reasons to go to sea. Second is of course the cost - a transport would take less time to build and thus be able to get to more pods faster.

Even if we did want a military ship for some reason, has the idea of building a cheaper one and upgrading been considered?

Didnt you read the summary I sent you, we are preparing for a naval war with PEACE which is off our wester Coast. A Laser Cruiser to the North is conducting exploration and Pod Poping, also I belive they have disabled Alien Artifacts in Pods (for balance) thus military units are preferable for pod Poping and IOD fighting.

Sugjest you read up on the threads to get a bit more versed with what our current plans our, the threads are quite informative and now that you have opened a saved game it will make much more sense.

Ah - too many SMAC games on at once, got a bit confused. Knew someone was at war and saw some screenshots at some point, but got confused when I couldn't see any wars ongoing in the save, nor any territory beyond our own.

Hard to know which threads actually cover the info that's needed, really, they've all been inactive for so long. I will prod around a bit though.
