Anyone Heard From Tassadar?
Man Dies After Winning Vodka-Drinking Contest
1 hour, 56 minutes ago

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A vodka-drinking competition in a southern Russian town ended in tragedy with the winner dead and several runners-up in intensive care.

"The competition lasted 30, perhaps 40 minutes and the winner downed three half-liter bottles. He was taken home by taxi but died within 20 minutes," said Roman Popov, a prosecutor pursuing the case in the town of Volgodonsk.

"Five contestants ended up in intensive care. Those not in hospital turned up the next day, ostensibly for another drink."

Popov said the director of the shop organizing this month's contest had been charged with manslaughter. He had offered 10 liters of vodka to the competitor drinking the most in the shortest time.

Russians drink the equivalent of 15 liters of pure alcohol per head annually, one of the highest rates in the world. Some experts estimate one in seven Russians is an alcoholic.

Wow. 3 half liters?? That's just looking for trouble...

They should have made a throwing up contest afterwards.

I thought of David at first, but then saw it was a stinkin' Russkie.
Naturally, Tassadar jumped to mind.

Once I read about a canadian woman who died after drinking 15 liters of water because of the huge loss of minerals in her blood.. can't believe such stupid persons are allowed to live-well, not anymore

Re: Anyone Heard From Tassadar?
Don't worry Slowwy, I'm still here

Actually, my wife had a sudden gambling urge (while I was sick no less), so we decided to go to Reno. We gambled a total of $10.
We wont a total of $14 I threw up in Salt Lake and..well, released quite a bit of waste in Elok or whatever that Nevada city is called. Then I felt fine
Nevada is infested by hicks! I thought Utah was bad, but Nevada...It's like everywhere we went there was a Hick-Nonhick ration of at least 3:1!
One of them tried to seduce my wife. "It's a fine nite out there, don't you agree ma'am?" he asked as he began to get closer to her. She looked at him nervously and just said "Yes. It is".
"Are you new to these parts ("These parts"? Ugh.), ma'am?" this time, getting so close he was touching her.
"My HUSBAND ( She placed a heavy emphasis on husband) and I just came down here on a small vacation" she said with a high degree of annoyance on her voice.
This person later tried to stalk us, but we began to drive back to Salt Lake, so he eventually went back to Elok.
There is sooo much desert outside of Northern Utah its scarey Just endless desert...I do not believe I have seen so much in my entire life!
All in all, the casinos were nice, but the trip was horrible.

[/Pointless rant]

Well, I DO enjoy a good vodka from time to time, but I don't drink that much straight liquor. I drink either beer or girlie drinks, sorry

Why Reno?

It's quicker to Vegas from Salt Lake City!

That's a long drive to only gamble $10.

Crazy Utahins.

And the town you passed through is called Elko. There is also a place called Battle Mountain.

And several brothels along I-80. It's a truckers route, that's why there are so many.

But if you were with your wife, it was unlikely you admitted seeing those

I believe it is shorter to Reno than Las Vegas.

It is 440 miles from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas. That's no easy drive. We're talking almost 9 hours of driving. More depending how often you stop.

Drank a fifth of vodka straight back in the day. This was after 2 beers and about 6-8 hits off the water bong. On an empty stomach (some have argued empty head as well...).

675.1 km Vegas to Salt Lake City

832.7 km Reno to Salt Lake City

465.0 km Elko to Reno

695.4 km Elko to Vegas.

Long way to drive. That's farther than for me to get home for Christmas, and I would never do that in a weekend!
