Cities.gif population shield?
Sorry if this question might sound dumb, but it has been on my mind for ages and I couldn't find any solution:
I want to place the shield showing the population number of each city manually. Regardless what I did - I had no result: it's always placed in the upper left corner.
I have already read tips about it, I tried to copy entire rows out of other cieties.gif files.
What am I doing wrong?
I also noticed that in many scenarios the shields aren't placed in their assigned position either (except Second Front for exmple).
Might the problem be related to the background colour or the palette or ...?

Can someone perhaps debug the cities.gif for me if it's not that straightforward?

Please help me!

Blue dots assign place/position to standards, and orange ones assign place/position to pop shields. You'll find them o'the cities' icons green borders. Just move them and voilà...

That's exactly what I did - but the strange thing is only the flags will ever move...
I often encountered light blue instead of organge?

But might I mail the city.gif to you so you can see what was wrong?

If you don't put down both of the orange dots, the city number box will default to the upper left corner. Make sure your dots are index 249 and not 108. They may look right to you, but still be the wrong index.

Oh yes, another reason you may have encountered light blue instead of orange is because the creator was trying to make a unique color that wasn't found elsewhere in the pallete (as is the case with the default orange.) This helps with cutting and pasting, where some graphics programs get confused and put in the wrong index when you paste in part of the image. I do this alot myself: when the invisible color has the same RGB as another color in the palette, i simply change the RGB for the invisible color to unique color to avoid the problems you might be experiencing. Don't think you can change the RGB to make new colors for your images, though, because civII will just change them back. You don't HAVE to change the RGB for the invisible color it will just help you to make sure you are using the index you intended to.

Thanks for you effort, Prom!
