Does this make sense?
I'm shopping around for a DVD edition of a movie I have. It's a British movie. With British actors. Filmed, released, and marketed in the UK. It's being sold by a British company.

And the DVD is only for Region 1, ie, North America. They don't do a Region 2 UK/Euro DVD. It doesn't affect me much as I have a multi-regional DVD player but, honestly, where is the logic in a UK movie that can't be played on most UK DVD players?

Death to the DVD Regions!

That just shows how weak the UK market is.

It's sold in the bleeding UK market. British company shipping in the UK to British customers. Yet only in Region 1 coding.

A thousand grains of sand into the wounds of the infernal beast that thought up regional coding!

Don't you mean salt? Atleast that would be the proper expression here.

I don't understand the point of regional codes either. What is the movie you talk about?

Get Real. A touching story that is the vital component of the hedonistic night of wine, cheesecake, chocolate, and clubbing that a gay mate and I are planning.

And go away Bods, no one invited you to play.

DVD regions need to die.

i have to use a ps2 dvd cracker and/or a pc dvd region cracker in order to view my paid-for korean dvds (region 3) over here, where they don't sell any of them, period.

Does anyone really buy DVD players that are not region-free?

Those people who don't have the choise (the sellers don't have region-free players). But luckily you can download programs, which can make all machines region-free.

But I'm not sure about this with some older players.

Is Xbox region-specific? My daughter wants one for Christmas, and I was going to let it double as the family DVD player rather than buy a separate machine...

because of pressure from the mpaa here in the states, it's very difficult to find a region-free dvd player. in addition, dvd drives here are set to region 1; virtually all dvds sold are encoded for region 1. thus, dvd region locks are a non-issue for the huge mass of the general public, most of whom have no idea what a region lock is in the first place.

the region lock really only affects those american consumers, like me, who wish to see movies from foreign countries which are not distributed here in the us, without the expense of having to add a plane ticket, hotel stay, and hassles of a visa in addition to the movie ticket.
