***Installing the Module***

1. Unzip the file The Dungeon of Apolyton into your Neverwinter Nights Modules folder. The default location is C:\Neverwinternights\NWN\modules
2. Unzip the file Apolyton.hak into your Hakpack folder. The default location is C:\Neverwinternights\NWN\hak
3. That's it.

***Starting the Module***

1. Start the game as normal.
2. Select the option "New" or "New Game"
3. Select "Other Modules"
4. Select "Apolyton"
5. Either create a new character, or choose one you already created.
6. Play.

***Before you Start***

It's highly reccommended to add these lines to nwnplayer.ini under [Game Options] or change them if they are already there :

Single Player ItemLevelRestrictions=0
Single Player Enforce Legal Characters=0
Memory Level=2
Memory Access=2

This will allow you to a.) use all the items and b.) see the adult content of this module.

Also reccommended is to add this under [Control Options] :

unlockcamera=1

This does like it says, so you can have a good look around.

***Other Advice***

a.) This module is designed to be played on the normal difficulty setting with a new level one character. It is balanced to be "fun but challenging" at this level. Don't use a level 20 wizzie with immunity to everything unless you WANT to fight creatures designed to test low-level characters.
b.) Talk to everyone and listen to what they say. Only by helping a series of unrelated quests, spread over the whole game, is it possible to access Area 24, or to become a Moderator.
c.) Attacking innocents can cause you to become stuck. Sometimes you can carry on. Use some sense, and don't kill the only person who knows a password, for example. Many people when killed will cause thier friends to be agressive to you. Watch out, some people have REALLY tough friends.
d.) Almost all quests CAN be completed without fighting. I won't say how... but think SNEAKY.
e.) If you get a load of text in german this means one of two things. Either its reporting a failure in a dialogue (in which case try repeating the conversation, or returning later in that story line) or the text is an item description for a common object, that I "borrowed" but didn't translate - yet. You don't need to know what a table looks like in german
f.) At the moment the ending "movie" is missing to keep the download small. This will be packaged with future versions, after I have everything fixed, I hope...

***Technical Problems***

If you can't get the module to work :

1.) You need the first X-pack "Shadows of U-blah-blah"
2.) You need to make sure NWN is looking in the right directory. This line must be in nwn.ini under [Alias] :
MODULES=.\modules
3.) Make sure you unpacked it in the right directory.
4.) If its still not working at all, then send me an e-mail and tell me exactly what's wrong. j_maunders@yahoo.co.uk Put APOLYTON DUNGEON in the header.

***Game Problems***

A walkthrough will be available soon, and will be packed with future releases. If you're stuck... then I can get to the end, so you need to try something else, or you've killed my module, you monster!

Cut me in for a piece of the action.
Where can I talk to you about the idea for an Enigma character?

I don't know if you can do custom artistry, but waistlength red hair would be nice (Makes me look like myself in RL)

I will carry 2 enigma-related items:
The Orb of Introspection
(Big +es to Wisdom and Intelligence)
The battle axe of Egotism
(Great -s to charisma, but a very strong weapon designed to kill everyone that opposes the bearer)

When the player encounters me hiding after a loss to tass (presuming the player hasn't killed me on an earlier level), I will be depressed, basically admitting that I can't defeat my enemies, asserting that I am worthless and crying a lot.
To fix this, the player will have to find the items:
Wrist Swords of acceptance
Armor of friendship
Bucklers of understanding
And give them to me.
With these items, I will stop being a lone wolf, and help the player. I will leave my battle axe of Egotism behind.

I will eventually run off, saying "I sense the source of all this stupidity." Only to be found dead before the final level boss.

Okay, I've read the first 3 pages.
Here's my idea for the story of Enigma:

Enigma is a hot-headed warrior, a loose cannon who has much to learn.
He has a desire for knowledge, a lust for power, and an innate resentment of being influenced by anyone.

I'd cast myself as some type of fighter-mage or psychic-fighter.
I don't have NWN, so I'll go on the 6-stat rule, with average being ten.
If the averages for a human are:
STRENGTH: 10 INTELLIGENCE: 10 DEXTERITY: 10
WISDOM: 10 CHARISMA: 10 CONSTITUTION: 10
Then Enigma's stats would be:
STRENGTH: 8 INTELLIGENCE: 16 DEX: 16
WISDOM: 12 CHARISMA: 8 CONSTITUTION: 4

But note that I wear the +8 INT +4 WIS orb of introspection and the -8 CHARISMA +8 STR axe of egotism at the beginning of the game.
Tht puts me on:
STR 16 INT 24 DEX 16 WIS 16 CHAR 0 CON 4

You first meet me at the start of level 1.
You might say 'meet', because I am quite terse at that stage.
When you see me, I say:
"I am Enigma, Guardian of intellect. I will destroy all my foes and crush this stupid world. Let the gates of wisdom be opened!"
If you get near me, I will say:
"I do not need your help, nor do I want your burden. Go away."
If you attack me, I will laugh and say:
"Fool! You spawn of stupidity have no chance against my superior intellect!"
I will automatically run away from the player, and move faster than you can catch me.

You see me again at the start of level 2.
This time, I am calculating my chances, having been injured slightly by a fight.
When you see me, I say:
"Hmmm... These enemies are tougher than expected. Regardless, I believe I have an excellent chance of victory."
Approach me, I say:
"You Average don't look like you have much chance. Leave it to me, I am much better suited to defeat these enemies."
If you attack me:
"You have made a great and unwise error. I will teach you your foolishness."
I will automatically run away from the player, and move faster than you can catch me.

You again meet me in level 3.
I'm a bit skeptical now, being moderately injured.
I say on sight:
"The enemy are quite strong. We need a person strong in mind, body and spirit to defeat them."
I say on approach:
"You had best stay behind. This is my fight, my mission. I do not want you to risk your life for it.
If you attack:
"Why are you all against me? What is so bad about my quest for intellect? No matter - I will destroy you. I must follow my goals."
Same running details.

After you defeat Tass, you find me somewhat less Enigmatic.
Cowering, no longer injured but broken in spirit.
I am quite depressed, and mention self-destruction.
You have 3 options:
1. Leave me there alone.
2. Kill me (I will offer no resisitance).
3. Find the 3 magic items as listed above.
(Might want to hide them in level 4)

If you leave me alone, and get to level 5, I will have found the items of my own volition.
If you get me the items, I will vow to help you, engaging enemies with you.

In any case, once the depression ends (either by killing me or by me finding the items) I will cast off a shadow, which will form itself into a 'dark enigma'.
This dark spirit wants to make its way to the Apolyton town centre. It will rise up through the levels (It's a ghost)

What happens to the Dark Enigma depends on what happened to me.
If you saved me by getting those items, I will be defending Skanky's Grill and Bar, waiting for you to double-team the Dark Enigma.
If I found the items of my own volition, I will have already killed the Dark Enigma and be sitting in the Rec Commons chatting with people.
If you killed me, The Dark Enigma sacks the Grill and Bar, and is stopped by HongHu's sword of trust.

The Orb of Introspection

You have to kill me to get the orb. By default, I run away when I am betrayed, so your only real shot at it is killing me after the Tass fight.
Or waiting until I take on something a -bit- too strong and die.

I would probably have hatred towards any chars with a base intelligence less than 8.
No doubt you'll place some 'stereotypically stupid' people around, I'll try to pick fights with them.

If you take some of the items with you to level 5, I will politely ask for them. Then fight you for them. Then lose.
The idea is to avoid a duplicate item thingy...
The items are as follows:
Wrist Swords of acceptance: +4 Dex +4 Charisma
Armor of Friendship: +8 Charisma +4 Con
Bucklers of Understanding: +4 Wis +4 Str

If you let me save myself, I will not be seen for a while.
This is because I am trying to recover the Grapefruit of Love for HongHu (who was very supportive in all this).
If the player saves me, I will ask if the player is interested in the grapefruit quest, but if not I'll still follow the player around, generally killing things.

Since it is my quest to save the world from stupidity, I will run off and attack an end boss, getting my ass whooped in the process. (Be sure to give my stuff to someone who needs it)

I don't know how making alternative levels, but perhaps (from beyond the grave) I can open a window to the universe of my mind - "The Chaotic Enigma", and have the entrance to be through someone else's mind. (talk to them and you're teleported there)
Exactly what a place would contain, I am uncertain. You can make up what you think the world of my mind would contain.

BTW Dude, this is just the beginning. There's enough Enigma_Nova to make entire game - but I'll keep it brief to a renegade that relearns that not all things are enemies.

You are the only NPC that regularly killed my TEST CHARACTER. If you're playing without my über-hacked immortal guy then anyone that meets you is in trouble. I normally lasted about 4 seconds vs Enigma_Nova.
Then I put an item in, in a hidden place with a tough guardian, that gives the player a chance.
Killing Enigma_Nova is needed for the optional good AND evil endings.
