Though the Pack gave that game up. No, no... not from Farve's INT, but from giving up that 4th and 26 or whatever... jeez... after that, they didn't deserve the win.

Wasn't that nice of them? I am truly amazed at some of the ways the Eagles have found to win this season. They only looked REALLY good in a few games (late November/early December). The rest of the time they always look like they're on the verge of defeat, but managed to pull it off most of the time.

Bring on Carolina!!!!

Unbelievable -- I thought it was funny, but when the impersonator pulled out the plastic bag full of pills, it was a bit over-the-top. I could swear I heard Rush reaching for his attorney...

(I guess it's not actionable, since he's a public figure and admitted the pill problem by going to rehab. But boy, it was pretty unrelenting.)

Reading through this thread, I'm disappointed at all of the Philly-haters we have at ACS. People have no respect for the heart that this team has shown. Half of their starters are gone for the season due to injury. Yet even at the darkest moments of the game they never quit. I thought perhaps that we had a group of enlightened football fans here at ACS. Fans who see through the media hype that conditions them to hate Philly. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes when you're bitter that your team is out of the playoffs - some people feel better just lashing out at the teams that are left, trying to diminish that team's success.

GB shut down our receivers and most of our running game. They sacked McNabb 8 times. However, GB's failure to ice the game on their 4th and 1 both at the end of the half and in the 4th, and the soft defense they played on the Birds 4th and 26 were their downfall. It came down to who was going to make more clutch plays. A few clutch plays was all we needed and McNabb/Akers/Dawkins came up with more than Favre/Green/DB's could. McNabb willed us that win.

Carolina looks better on paper right now because they are healthier. But they will have to prove they want the Super Bowl more than the Eagles next week, and that will be extremely difficult.

Go Eagles!

FWIW I'm a big Eagles fan -- picked them to win it all on Poly last year (ahead of my time), and picked them to beat the Packers yesterday.

Well I thought all could have won outright (and all the road dogs did have their chances), but the matchups seemed to be VERY close IMO. Even 5.5 was too high for me.

As for next week... don't look for Indy to make the same mistake at NE again. They won't rely on James to get some points... Peyton Manning is playing like 'God came down to Earth to give Indy a Superbowl' right now. I mean this guy is REALLY looking like Montana (as opposed to other QBs who have been called that recently)... or perhaps better. Should be good though.

In the NFC, it's going to be close, but I think Carolina can pull it out, because they are just going to run, run, and run some more. Even with Davis out... Foster looks like the best backup RB in the league after this past week.

So, I think it'll be Indy v. Carolina, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Philly v. NE (or any other combination).

Dan Marino return to the Dolphins

There had been no indication of Marino's interest in the job while owner Wayne Huizenga and team president Eddie Jones interviewed seven candidates in 10 days.

"He went over this morning and met with Mr. Huizenga," Marino's wife, Claire, said from the couple's home.

"He will bring to his new responsibilities the same type of leadership, competitiveness, and vision that he had as a player and those qualities will make him as successful in the front office as he was on the field," Huizenga said in a statement.

Marino, 42, has been working as an NFL TV analyst for CBS and HBO. His hiring by the Dolphins was first reported by CBS.SportsLine.com.

The job became open when Wannstedt was stripped of control over personnel decisions after the Dolphins (10-6) missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1988-89.

Among the candidates were Hall of Fame receiver Paul Warfield, Spielman, and former Seattle and New Orleans general manager Randy Mueller.

Marino played for the Dolphins from 1983-99, taking them to Super Bowl XIX in January 1985, where they lost to San Francisco. The most prolific passer in NFL history, he holds league records with 61,361 yards passing and 420 touchdown passes.

"It's great for the franchise for him to return -- the most popular player we ever had," former teammate Jimmy Cefalo said. "Dan knows how to fire up a huddle, and I think he'll fire up the franchise. The fat will be cut away."

The hiring will test Marino's relationship with Wannstedt, which has been strained in the past. Marino retired reluctantly two months after Wannstedt became Miami's coach in January 2000.

Marino will try to become the rare superstar player to later have success as an executive or coach. In the NBA, for example, Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas and Larry Bird have attempted the crossover, with mixed results.

Marino's return to the Dolphins was a stunner in part because the deal came together so quickly.

"I didn't know how to react," Dolphins defensive tackle Larry Chester said. "I was like, 'Dan Marino? He's a player. Wow!' ...

"Having him here is a major plus. Dan Marino is Miami. With him pulling the reins, I see nothing but good things. I just wish he was coming back to play."

The hiring of Marino is the latest surprising twist in the Dolphins' offseason. Huizenga resolved the embattled Wannstedt's status two weeks ago by giving him a two-year contract extension but also a demotion, relieving him of responsibility for player moves.

The Dolphins have won only one playoff game in the four years since Marino retired, in part because of lackluster results in the draft.

Marino's mission will be to help change that. He also faces a decision about the future of his successor at quarterback, Jay Fiedler, who has been unpopular with fans while directing a sputtering offense.

Fiedler, who has missed nine games over the past two seasons, is signed through 2006. He signed a five-year contract in February 2002.
