There was a mid 80's game called gladiator. MK was a joke...since I'm running out of ideas.

Street fighter?

Seriously can no one think of a martial arts fighting game from this period, released just after (and far superior to) IK and Way of the exploding fist?

Damn! I just wanted to guess exploding fist!

Edit: After I reviewed the thread once again I noticed it has already been guessed. These things happen when you aren't regular.

Was the a game called Karate Kid? That'll be my guess, since I know no other Martial Arts games that haven't already been mentioned...

Shinobi? Never played the game, so I don't know if it's a Martial Arts game...

Late '80s, C64 (perhaps others, but I doubt it).

RPG, non-standard.

Great site Doc.

You wouldn't know a commodore64 counterpart of it, would you?

Darn - another one i would have got had i been here the last couple of days.....

Was it really better than IK? I never played Yie Ar Kung Fu, but IK was a great game - lots of levels/16 moves/many varied inter level challanges(i loved the head butting one). It was a very pure martial arts game.

[and i find it hard to believe a spectrum game genre could have a better game than my beloved Atari 8bit - however i was envious of the rather cool advert/box art for it, which made me want to play it - that nunchuka dude looked mean ]

Well I liked IK but Yie Ar Kung Fu set the standard in my view for a good while. It's sad but most of the Tekken/Soul Calibur/VF adherents think beat-em-ups began with SF2, but those early Spectrum (and related platforms) games are the real ancestors.

I played yie ar kung fu 2. It was C64 game. However, this game had fewer moves. That's why I never suspected the great classic.

I finally remembered the one game that I had that wasn't a "karate" game. Did not play it much, it was one of those, I got it in a bundle of games for a really cheap price.

Oh, guesses all wrong. Non-standard is a telling clue here.

Nope, but I had lots of trouble with this one. You will lose party members continually.

Cot Nope
Guy, wrong era, kondor was '90s IIRC

Clues
1. Late '80s, C64 (perhaps others, but I doubt it).
2. RPG, non-standard.
3. Non-standard is a telling clue here.
4. I had lots of trouble with this one. You will lose party members continually.
5. Combat was realtime and preventing friendly fire was difficult due to characters bent on walking into other characters firing path.

Ok so C64 rpg with guns.......is it a true rpg or really another genre with elements of rpg(like character improvements)?
