I just did a quick jog through the tutorial. Didn't spend enough time to go into detail, but it looks REAL nice! More later...

Well, based on playing the demo last night and reading this Gamespot Review this morning I don't think I'll be buying RFTS.
Last night I was beginning to feel disappointment over the game, it seemed that there wasn't a whole lot to do. For one thing, technology comes in eras, and it seems you have to complete the discoveries of one era before moving to the next. Each era cosists of one engine design, one weapon design, one radar design, etc. There's no way to race ahead in weapons technologies while letting your engine tech suffer, for example. And there seem to be a LOT of those kind of tradeoffs made. Gamespot used the word "sterile" to describe the game. I think that's pretty apt.
Check out the (45Mb) demo, maybe you'll find something to like about this game that I've missed.

BUMP!
Hi Bkeela,
Check out the Gamespot review (above) and to answer your question in the Stars! thread, I don't think (for me anyway) that a "not too bad" game really deserves my investment of $40-$50. Before I spend that much money I want want to know I'm getting (at least potentially) a GREAT game.

Reviews are one thing, however your preferences could be very different from that of the reviewer. For example, Gamespot gave The Sims a high score yet I dislike the game myself. Ditto with Starfleet Command.
Though if you don't like the demo, that's pretty much it.

But that's Gamespots strategy guy who reviewed that
And its pretty safe to say the game sucks...
You and me dont like the sims cuz theres no sense of accomplishment and you cant win, in SC3k you had a big city and you could be proud of the nice parks, expensive houses, in the sims its just a big pain in the ass after another, time flying by, friends cheating on you. And what do you get, a new job, a new TV. No accomplishment. taht's why the game sucks.

The only redeeming feature of The Sims is the interface. It's very nice.

Ah, ok. Thanks John-SJ. I don't know if I'll buy it; (it hasn't even been released in Australia, or Brisbane atleast.) Reach For The Stars may be one of those games better left until the bargain bin time before purchase. If Stars Supernova is good, it won't be a long wait for that time.
Bkeela.
