That map is even more unbalanced then eurodip. The russians and the yellow guys are pretty much untouchable, and they control most of the land. Everyone else has to fight for a piece of land.... In the long run the ones with more land will win out. Russia only need to protect boarder cities, where as every other civ has to protect every city.

Well, there are compensating effects. Russia has terrible terrain. So in my games playing Russia against the AI I do very poorly until the late game, when sheer number of cities tends to propel me ahead. In my testing with all AIs, neither Turkey nor Russia seems to have an advantage. Turkey has to deal with Austria, so I don't see how they have more land, though their frontier is protected.

Berzerker and I are playing a game right now: he as the Austrians, myself as the Russians. We'll see how it turns out. So far he's slightly ahead.

Heh heh Well, we're waiting for Finbar to get back from Italy, so that will be January 7, I think. A good ways away. I think I will spend the intermediate time making new icons and really sprucing this thing up.

P.S. If you think the Russians have an advantage, how about you take them when we play?

Though they are vulnerable to naval attacks, and given the additional movement points for sea units, that may increase the danger for Turkey.

Finally, in a game where the goal is to reach A.C. rather than to conquer everyone, having a protected frontier doesn't mean you're set.

If there are more than 7 players interested in this game how about starting a 2nd Millenium Diplo game on the same map.....

Well, I notice there are several other diplomacy games starting around then, with Capo and Cavebear and so on. If there is enough interest, we could definitely start a 2nd one, but so far there hasn't been. Wezil just dropped out, and Jedi is taking his place.

I would pick:
1)Britainy
2)Germany
3)Turkey
4)Italy

Nappy, maybe if there are not enough for a second game, then it is good to have available players to sub or replace any who can't continue.

The city number limit in the game will offset Markus concern about Any one player hogging up cities with 35 average per civ.
What if some sort of city number limit was imposed? This might help everyone to take it easy on grabbing land and search for ideal cities.
But either way no one civ will likely grab too many more than another before the limit is reached

That's true - actually, I doubt the 255 limit will be reached; it's a large map but not an enormous one.

If there are any openings in this or any other diplo games I would be interested in participating.

I like the idea of multiplying sea movement and propose to use the GIGA-world map, but I would love to play in Europe. I would be happy to play any civilization available.

There is a hack to get around it? Are you sure? I've seen it discussed among programmer geeks, and they seemed to think it was impossible. Something about the next order of magnitude being 52,000 and there not being space enough for that level of byte allocation. Something like that.
