Yeah, my apartment is all electric as well. When we originally talked to the landlord (before looking at it) he made a big deal about covering all utilities except electric. Then when we came to look at it we realized that everything (stove, heat, etc.) is electric. It's so damn expensive (we are really getting ripped off with this apartment, but we were desperate at the time we took it. oh well).

Anyway, looking forward to this Sunday, I hope things go better for those of you that didn't make it (and I hope nothing happens to the rest of us this time around as well )

Being in an all-electric house, power loss is worse for me than for people that have gas or oil heat in addition. So you certainly have my understanding of the annoyances that occur when the electric fails!

Back in Calif & stablity for a while.... except for the "rolling blackouts". Probably what happened to thee, War4... heard they're pulling in even Canadian electricity to make up shaortage (& U know of course the exchange rate, so us Calif twinkies are "stealing" it from U!).
Actually, since i'v been away for so long i'm laughing that these stupid people that can't run their businesses or laptops due to "saving" the snail-dartter or squirrels or scrub brush or who knows what(!).
Not 20 miles from where i sit, is a nuclear plant that was shut down within 6 months of opening... now it's a big block of cement! Go plug your computers into that, twinkies! Or that tree U saved, boneheads, or harness 1 of the "endangered species" U "saved", greenpeace.

Nuf said about that.
=====================================
As for this Diplo game, or what it NOW proposed to be, count me out.
As stated before & always... have no desire whatsoever to play on a known world.
It just is so unrealistic & unchallenging to start on ANY map in the year 4000BC & all the rulers somhow, physically know the layout of the entire planet.
-------------------------------------
If U can figure out how start the game with civ's on your European map already developed & comparable to those starting positions in the ORIGINAL Diplomacy game them give me another post... that could be fun.

Have fun & good luck.

KenThur - I'm sorry to read that you won't be playing. I understand your opinion concerning a known map, but I have become equally unhappy about playing long MP games on randomly-generated maps that essentially predetermine the winner of a game by the layout and initial starting positions. I tried to get around it by having a non-participant mapmaker design and start us out, but I just couldn't get an unknown one that sounded like it was going to support 7 advanced Civs.

And so it passed that the tribe calling themself the Celts wandered to an area full of milk and honey (and whales). There was a dispute amongst the tribe members though about whether they truly should settle down in this beautiful land or whether to wander further. Those who wished to stay were the members of the tribe who were slightly more learned than most other peoples in the world in those times, they had great bronze spears, and had some communication techniques which were quite innovative for the time. After a tribal civil war ensued, these "intelligentsia" won, and settled down to build Hereford.

And from there the Celts began to expand, sending out large masses of people to find new areas to settle in to, as well as young men with swift horses to explore their surroundings. Northeast of Hereford, they found a great mountain range. It was possible to get through, or to travel through the forest on end of the range, but one Celtic leader saw the mountains as a source of great protection. If only they could use the terrain to build great fortresses from which they could spot the enemy for miles, and also stop them if necessary.

In the year 1900 BC, a group of horsemen that had breached the mountain barrier ran into a small English town. The men of the group were generally of the mind to sack the town, but their leader, Math, was of a peaceful mind and instead offered a treaty of peace and began exploring

Math soon went up the ranks and eventually became a king of a true monarchy. He continue pushing the enlightened ones to increase the knowledge of the celts, while raising many armies, both from the interior and by recruiting small tribes that the Celts encountered and ASSIMILATED. (hehe)

In 950 BC, he died (apparently had a heart attack, from the description of the death given). According to the legend, the whole world stopped breathing, time itself stopped moving until it finished mourning for the Great King Math. Once the gods had decided that the mourning period had lasted long enough, time was allowed to begin moving again. The new leader, King Owein, declared that a huge burial area was to be made for King Math, and also a great statue to be made in his honor.

I've emailed everyone (except I don't have an address for Slowwhand) with the map and basic game settings/rules. I've assigned Slowwhand the Egyptians for lack of a selection. Boann has changed to Japanese. See you on ICQ shortly before 4 pm EST. I'll set up chat there.
