Civilization Contest
I was there, in the train, going home, a few hours ago, and like everytime I take the train to get back home, I began to think about Civilization...
I usualy think about strategies, improvements for the new next version, but this time, I thought about;

The organization of an event in which every civ-lovers will be able to come, to connect his computer to a LAN and to play to civilization with other participants on the same place.

Ok, ok, first, it can be said that I'm half fool or something like that , but no...I'm sure it can be organized.

The main idea is to organize this event on to sites, one in Europe, the other in the USA. Each of these sites will be connected to a T1 to allow each site to communicate with the other. There will be places for people coming with their computer, and the possibility for people coming without their tools to rent a computer for the contest.

Ok, most of you will tell me, why, we got Internet, etc...But imagine a warehouse full of civ-lovers, playing, exchanging new strategies, etc...And above all, playing with 6 other humans without any lag, without being disconnected, .... Heaven

If i find enough people interested in it, I'm ready to start building a new website for this.

I have had this for some years, five computers (of various capabilities) connected to a local area network that has five conections to the web via cable modem. Works Quite well- fortunatly civ does not require a super computer so even my little old p150 can be used. Tho now we gave the p130 to a neighbor friend and the p150 is being given to my daughter so we will now only have the three machines, time to build a couple more.

Sounds a sort of civ-only of a place i know of in Manhattan. They have all computers hooked up on a network for no lag play of multiplayer games. They don't have civ, i checked . They charge like 6 bucks an hour so civ might get expensive anyway.

If it can be done with Quake and Unreal, I don't see why not with Civ. I wish I could help in this adventure, but considering my limited resources as of late I would probably not be of much use.

there will only be an initial fee of $30 or something like that, for 2-3 days (maybe more...). This will give people a place, an access to the network, to Internet, an unlimited amount of coffee, etc...

Yes, civII is fast on a p100, and the price of this kind of computer is $20 (maximum).
