Customizing Civ Problems
I hate it in MP games when my customization doesn't take. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Many people have b*tched about it here.

I have been trying to figure out why, and I may have stumbled onto something.

Due to a fast machine and a cable connection, I usually end up hosting games that I play in.

I usually take the green civ, in an attempt to not move first (to have time to respond to Barb appearances), and not have too many civs placed before my civ is delegated to a crappy location.

I've been keeping track of when it does or doesn't take my customization.
AND for the last 10 games, THERE HAS BEEN A PATTERN>

When another player takes the white civ and moves first, THE CUSTOMIZATION TAKES and the Ferret Civilization is in the game.

When no other player wants to move first and the white civ is not in the game (we never play with AI's in MP)
I am stuck with BABYLON.

I'm not sure how this affects the other civs. But I believe this is a good starting point. Now I know 10 games is not a large enough sample.

What I would like is to have people keep this in mind and post your experiences here. Let's see if this is valid.

We normally play on small worlds, Deity.

Please list world size, difficulty level (I doubt it matters but you never know)

And list the civs selected, which one is the host, and for which civ the customization took.

THANKS

RAH

Maybe I should have named this thread, resolving/understanding the custimization problem. I can't believe not a single response. So I'll try a shameless bump and see.

RAH
With all the whining, I've heard about this, it needs to be researched.

I have not encountered the problem that you are discribing... but then I am only an Apolyton Warlord (Prince want-a-be) and you are an Apolyton King (Emperor want-a-be)... so if you keep bumping and I keep saying I don't know about it, then we will realize our dreams.

I've had your problem Rah, but I've never discovered a pattern to it. You may well be right, as I frequently choose a green civ. If your logic is right, you should always be able to customize a purple civ.

I've never had the problem regardless of civ colour or whether or not I'm hosting. As I've observed before, I even retain my customised leader and tribe names if the game is aborted for some reason, restarted, and I choose the same civ. The only time I lose the customised bits and pieces - as does everyone - is when the game is loaded from an autosave.

Who usually hosts in the Australian group? And what color civ do they take? That could be why you never experience problems.

I'd love to hear from any other person that hosts a lot.

I used to host a lot - both prior to and after getting cable - until there were intermittent problems with PC players connecting to my Mac game. Even though we're all patched appropriately.

Horse seems to do the bulk of the hosting these days. He always appears in the games with his standard customised details, so he doesn't seem to have a problem. He, of course, will be along shortly to verify or otherwise.
