Tales from the PBEM front
The Romans wandered the map for 300 years, searching vainly for rivers, specials, or huts. Finally, they gave up in despair and established the twin cities of Rome and Veii. Growth has been steady but unspectacular. Roman horsemen have fought off three barbarian landing parties, and a horse from a hut. Only a single warrior has been lost to the barbs, but no leaders have been captured . As the online session ended, the Roman leader saw a vision of four other tribes: a green tribe led by kengel, a blue tribe led by Bohlen, and an orange tribe led by civsmart.

With the recent talk of PBEM games, I had to bring this thread to the top of the page. This is another one of the PBEM games that is in progress. How about some updates guys? At least I have an excuse for not posting here...the Germans haven't done anything yet!

The Romans' wretched home landmass (I won't dignify it by calling it a continent) groans under the weight of its sleazy cities. The Romans plan peaceful expansion to other landmasses; there is enough land to go around, and we are a friendly and unassuming folk .

Edit: what ever happened to the white civ getting the best land ?

Whew! This must be the map from Hades. The Germans are a peaceful bunch on the beautiful desert coast. The war with the Greeks turned out to be an awakening for these poor people. We now know our place in the world.

Isn't it funny and sad that in a game that will probably take over a year, I get the worst starting location of the lot? So much for trying to prove my worth in the MP world.

Haven't seen a file for a while. What is the status of game turns? Who has the game file?

You mean this PBEM game is catching up to the other one??
That isn't good!
Maybe we are going too slowly after all!

What? This game is catching up that one hosted by me?
Ash on my head! Guys, please don't play this here too fast

BTW, we are now writing 200 BC. The Zulu nation would like to thank the germans for givin' fresh water und some whiskey to our cowboys on their way through the prairie.

After a dangerous time of a menacing war with the greeks, we are glad that a peace treaty materialized just in time before greek civilians would have been the sad victims

There are also rumors about strange white men living in a land far away from ours... What will be their intention if we meet them?

The feeble Romans are no threat to the great Zulus (particularly since the barbs sank our trireme with two units on board ). We seek to maintain peaceful growth by building cities on lands not claimed by other civilizations.

Just wanted to bring the rules here again, since they are important for strategy and I needed half an hour to find Dave's original thread...

This is very strange...
The top 5 city window show all my cities are celebrating WLTP day?
In my top 5 cities window, there are two or three roman cities present, and I assure you my cities are rather more revolting than celebrating...
Probably another example of AI-take-over effect?

I guess so. In the other 4-way PBEM, where I'm not moving first, the F8 screen appears to show human happiness levels if I look at it right away, but shows AI happiness after I look at the F11 screen. I was careful to look at F8 first before taking these screenshots, but maybe things are messed up because I'm the white civ. I sure hope they have a better PBEM facility in Civ III...

The Zulus cry about how much trouble they're having controlling their numerous cities. The Romans have little sympathy for the Zulus' so-called problems; the green tide seems to be on a steady rise.

The thread is found...
"I ask you, consul, why must the Greeks make war with our people? Why! Can they not forget our dishonorable past and look toward a peaceful future? We are willing. Why not are they?"

"It is in their blood. They are the evil ones."

"No. I will not believe that."

"It is true, my Lord. The Zulu have been our friends for hundreds of years. They have been most pleasant. The same can be said of the Romans. The blood of the Greeks is black. Black evil."

"No. I can not believe that."

"You must, my Lord. You must for the sake of your people. Destroy them before it is too late."

Roman historians assess the state of the world as of AD 500:

The Zulus continue to widen their lead in the powergraph. Can anyone stop the Zulus? Probably not the Romans, whose peaceful ships continue to be sunk by the green-clad warmongers. Bohlen deserves special praise for sticking it out with the Germans, despite a bad start and a game mired at the bottom of the powergraph.
