New CaveBear Diplogame
We will start a new 6 player on dieties map and we will use curumber's rules.txt from the mil dip game.

I have changed the fire power of marines to 2, defence has been reduced by 1. This will allow marines to take out alpine troops from an acean assult.

Before next week i intend to create another unit called heavy combat marines, which will be able to tech out mech infantry from the water.(on open land)

Because of the size of the map, ship and air movement has been doubled, oracle doesn't expire, and the prereqs for dem and rep have changed. An extra unit called trade ship has also been created (no unhappiness in rem and dem) Also lots of end game tech has been changed which will require more techs to be researched to launch a spaceship.

I will play as the aztecs again, zylka wants the romans. I suspect the english and germans will be popular(they start next to each other, early tech trading)

The Great Spirit led us to a great fishing ground and we settled down. Our young ones could not stay there long, and many moved out to other areas to create new towns. Worship mounds were built as quickly as possible everywhere with training grounds for our young warriors. Our warriors remain at home for now, working on improving our settlements.

Our first settlement began to erect a great offering to the gods, when a trajedy struck. A group of lost people, not unlike we once were, sailed into view of the city, landed, and drove out our warriors. Our young men are now preparing to take up the hatchet and the knife and repel these strangers with there strange long range instruments of death.

The settlements of the German people prosper as our common folk explore the surrounding land and find suitable places to establish new towns. Our learned men are busy perusing the secrets of the natural world, and have made some useful discoveries. They particularly like this "kowl" stuff that can be dug up from some of the hilly areas, as it burns longer than wood and is lighter to carry.

Our more adventurous types have been pushing the borders of the known world further and further, but they keep coming to the ocean, and there is not much we can do about that; our accustomed rivercraft are too slight for such rough waters.

At least the rivers offer some trading routes, and there are some trails being established among some of the more prosperous towns. I am quite fond, myself, of the silken fabrics that arrive here from some outlying town of skilled craftsmen. And the pheasants that arrive monthly are a wonderful change-of-pace from the usual fish and corn.

So far, we have not met any other people. Still, there must be such, for Woden has told us so.

I don't have cable or DSL (German civ). The only thing available here is dial-up. Do you think that will be (or has been so far) a problem?

Yeah that wasn't too subtle I suppose... It's just that we specifically started this game with the intention of having the fastest players, and getting far quickly. Some connections slow players down a lot, regardless of how quickly they move, some don't. I'm not intending to be elitist - we're just trying this once, so please let us

You didn't answer my question about whether I was actually slowing the game down or not, and I would like an answer to that.

As far as starting this game with the intent of having the "fastest players", I was not advised of that, nor was it my understanding that that was the primary concern.

To *my* knowledge, this game developed from an initial attempt to recruit a few players to continue my original diplo game and only when that fell through did Markus and I decide to start a new one with some of the original players and a few new ones. Absurddoctor and I came in from the previous game, and you and Sekong were recruited by Markus.

I don't have access to a high speed connection. If anyone provided it here, I would have it. My cable company does not offer it in my area yet, I am too far away from local telco switching centers for any form of DSL, and mature trees block my line-of-sight to wireless satelite service.

You seem to have managed to get Sekong to offer to leave. That's a shame. If it wasn't that I am tied at the top of the PG with Markus (a high point in my playing career, regardless of how meaningless the PG is) I would bag it right now, too.

You seem to have troubles reading my posts, cave.
A.) That second post was not for you.
B.) No, you have not been slowing things down.
C.) Talk to me about it in the game. I'd rather not be drawn into one of your melodramatic forum soap-opera scenes, regardless of how much you enjoy them.

I seem to have scared Sekong away??? He decided to leave for reasons of his own, long before I made that post! I have no clue how you attributed anything I said to that, but oh well..

The last point first... You are correct; I completely misread Sekong's post, and I apologize to you about that. I hope that it is unlike me to do so and I very much regret my error.

About the others:

A. Well, it sure looks to me as though I was the intended recipient, but let's let that one go.

B. I'm relieved to hear that I was not slowing the game down as far as you are concerned. Having a dial-up modem, *and* tending to micro-manage, I feel guilty about the lag that both can cause. I hope you will accept that. I do my very best to keep the game moving at a good pace.

C. No, actually I would rather discuss problems (or possible ones) outside the game itself. Gametime itself should be used for just that, the game.

I'll leave discussion about the "soap-opera" aspect of my posts to ICQ or something.

If a cavebear game means game on Sunday afternoon 4:00pm-7:00pm, I can't commit on it all the time. Therefore I think it's better for me to give the civ out to somebody. My civ(America) is not the best in term of size or land. But still OK I think.

Sorry, I'm at a loss as to when I should be showing up for this game. Perhaps a mass message from the game's host beforehand would organize things nicely, as is the style these days.

it was on sunday 1pm.. But last time 3 people didn't show up and evidently many other diplogame players are leaving school, going on vacation etc. So scheduling will be a nightmare
