I dont think CtP2 has a line of succession so to speak. Civ2 needed to for leanardos workshop or whichever it was that autoupdated the units.

You can probably build some succession queues and have slic automatically replace the no longer buildable units.

We all need a SLIC 101 class.....LOL

Altho the SLIC documentation is pretty good, I'm still not sure how some of it works.

Well OF COURSE I don't want that, geezzz...
When I tell a city to build 3 Infantrymen and 2 Artillery, and meanwhile I discover Adv. Infantry Tactics, which disables the Infantrymen, OF COURSE I don't want all of them to just "disappear" from the build queue... OF COURSE they need to be replaced with Marines (which is the apparent successor of Infantrymen, since they are disabled). Bah, didn't they look to civ2 at all ???

Actually, you may not want to do that. It is often the case for me that I would rather build pikemen and archers than build the much more expensive infantryman.

I don't think you get my point. With some inventions, units become "obsolete" i.e. you CANNOT build them anymore. Of course when the obsolete units are still in your build queues, they need to be replaced with the successing unit (just like in civ2).

Oooh, I see what you're saying Michiel!

So, Adv. Infantry obsoletes Infantryman? I haven't gotten that far so I wouldn't be sure.

But yeah, if what you say is correct (I think it is, not sure), that would be really stupid! They should at least delete the obsolete units out of the queue, at least.

No line of succession ??? What ???
You mean they couldn't imagine the player wanting to replace those obsolete units ? It seems so blatantly obvious to me, especially because this was implemented before (civ2), nothing new here.
A real shame (to express myself politely).

I think activision expected us to use mayors more. In CtP1, with over 100 cities, mayors might have been useful. But with so few cities in CtP2, who needs them. I figure the mayors use the same logic as the Ai, and we all know how well the AI works.

This sounds like a problem for SLIC, but I suspect the routines would have to be very long - one for each technology that obsoletes any unit.

Well, I think what Alpha Wolf is saying is that there is no list of what units should be replaced by what units. Even so, I think they should at least remove it from the queue.
