Another possiblity of a big attack?

Okay, as usual I'm starting a thread with no expectations of responses ...

Can anyone confirm whether changing the following line in Goals.txt will increase AI attacks,

PowerBonus 50000

(Originally PowerBonus = 500)

I was surprised to see 4 of my cities taken by the AI within a few turns of each other, with huge (size 12) attacking armies.

Well okay, not really. It attacked my cities that were defended by size-12 armies, with size-12 armies of its own. For my size-4 defended city, it used a size-5 army ... something fishy here, eh?

Great. There are other paramters in Goals.txt but it's not clear what these do. Some help from activision could go a long way ...

When you find out if this actually works please post your results here. I'd do it myself but I don't have the time nor patience.

BTW, exactly which powerbonus(es) did you change? There are many of them. It's listed under a bunch of things...GOAL_SEIGE, GOAL_ATTACK, GOAL_HARASS, etc.

i changed only the seige one. i believe that's the one that controls attacks on cities (at least that's what the 'Target' parameter seems to indicate).

Azmel,

Thanks for the insight - these are things that only one of the original CTP2 development team can help with.

Can you also comment on why the AI masses tons of troups (and even groups them into armies), but rarely attacks. I've seen 4 armies of 12 each, hanging out near an AI city, but not being used for attack - isn't that an overkill in defense?

If you could give some insight into this problem, that would be super - as you might have noticed, the weak AI offense is a big issue with CTP2. From going through the SLIC files, I think that this can be certainly resolved, but we players don't have enough undertanding of the parameters involved, and the values they can take.

Azmel,
Thanks for the insight. Any chance you can tell use what some of the others mean? Harass I assume is with special units and Attack are for those armies in the field?

You are correct that for taking cities you only need to worry about the seige goal.

The "PowerBonus" parameter determines how much of a priority bonus the AI should give to targets it already has troops nearby to. By default, the city in the cell with the most AI attack strength gets a 5000 point bonus. By increasing that to 50000, you make it more likely that the AI will attack enemy cities that it already has troops near. I think 50000 might be a tad high, but something like 10000 or 20000 could increase the agressiveness of the AI. If you make the bonus to big you risk the AI ignorning all other factors when picking a target city to seige.

Hope this helps,

-- Richard

That is another reason for the aggresivity of the AI in Cradle. A power bonus of 10000 for the attack goal and and 70000 for the seige goal. So no miracle that the Cradle AI will take all your cities.
