Managed my first game in a fortnight last night - mini-world 32x32, 5 billion years old (thought that would make it all plain - turned out it was 90% mountain), 7 civs, raging hordes, deity no restart etc...
Knowing that you guys had refined the Monarchy Sun Tzu route to death - i thought I'd go for barracks and little or no research.
found a hut built two cities - tipped some more huts whilest building barracks - researched Iron and then got Poly from hut - closed down research put lux to 60% - built vetEllies and went on rampage.
I know this is no sort of record, but for a first attempt by a one-time committed sleazer it can't be bad!
Does this suggest that the Mono, STWC is perhaps not the way to go?

Wow. Now I know. I spend too much time talking about Civ and not enough time PLAYING! In my Cub Scout Pack (I'm the "Cub Master") I started a chant for when adult leaders start taking too long for announcments: "LESS TALK, MORE FUN!" The boys started doing it in school for a while - the teachers just love me!

So, my new mantra: LESS POSTING, MORE PLAYING!!

Hey, SG1, catch up on your comparison games before starting a new game on your own!

Sorry - I only had a narrow window and didn't have bcb1 at home to try out - daren't start occ9 or 10 until this bloody marking is over with - the job does have some advantages (like pays bills and keeps my daughter in the manner to which she has become accustomed) -
Must try harder!

SG,

I have already come to that conclusion, based largely on my efforts to conquer the world with out building cities. See this thread for a quick conquer with the early units: http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum3/HT...tml?date=18:05

Instead of letting Knights and Dragoons face possibly pikemen (who may very well be fortified behind citywalls), I like the odds of putting archers, horsemen, chariots, and possibly elephants against warriors, and possibly phlanxes and archers.

I think the odds of winning are similar, if not better, plus, you get to carry these types of attacks much earlier.
