Civ-specific currency would be a good idea using the list above except that if the civ3 team did this the info would become inaccurate fast. Germany, France, etc. should be using the euro. Or maybe the old currency until an economic pact were formed. And the people should get angry when you introduce the new currency (like right now in Germany).

Exchange rates shouldn't be needed becasue all we are talking about is a text change so you discover bullion worth 100 #currency_name# or make a diplomatic gift to another country of 100 #currency_name# etc. I suppose the values might look a little odd for some currencies where 100 is barely enough to buy a cup of tea but then Civ has never reflected real life values anyway. It's just a nice text setting that makes the game feel more comfortable than using the generic gold or forcing the US Dollar on everyone.
