I can´t say what exactly your problem is, but I had several chrashes due to:

- typos in the rules, or too much entries in the rules, e.g. when you cut/paste elements of other rules files, and paste more techs/units/improvements than allowed

- too big events file, when you use notepad or so and insert simply too many events

- using a labels.txt with not enough stringheap space, e.g. when you copied a labels file from an older civ version

Solution: such errors are hard to find, but you can try to run the scn without events, rules or labels, then check if it works, then move the first of these files again into the scn folder, run again, move the next file back if it still runs and so on...

Once you found out what file causes the error, use the standard civ file of that type and start to make changes (run the scn sometimes after the new changes to see if it still runs)

Hope this helps, but there maybe more reasons...

I`ve had this problem before Gary, and it`s probably down to one of the factors that BeBro mentioned. The best way around it is to do what I do:

1) Make a copy of all the text files you are using for the scenario.
2) Rename one original file at a time, i.e rename rules.txt to rules1.txt or something, and then see if the scenario loads.
3) If it doesn`t, rename the file back to what it originally was and repeat with another .txt file. Keep trying until you find the one causing the problem.
4) This is the fiddly part. You have to start over with a new copy of that file, copying and pasting all the info from the backup in small increments. That way, you can find out which part of the file is causing the problem.

If the problem turns out to be the events file, you can always use the debug command to fix it up. For the other files, there's no other way to determine what's wrong besides what BeBro and Paul suggested.
