Matthew - great date for a large map! Could you have played as the Americans? (I have never played on a real "World Map".) Playing the Americans you are much more likely to get starting techs leading to monarchy, than playing Sioux.

With no other civs on North America, one civ starting there will not get a starting tech. The main reasons I chose the Sioux over the Americans were so I would have the Chinese to trade with and the Sioux start out closer to where I like my SSC. But perhaps the Indians would make better trading partners than the Chinese because of the distance factor.

I've made a small world map that I think will be excellent to try this on. I didn't make the best possible starting position (didn't want to make it too easy) but it has a decent SSC site and it's great if you like trading opportunities. If it works out well I'll post it. But now, now I will do Physics.
