Emperor Level
Hmmm, Zylka has a few good points.

The best start is definitely France which also has a massive river matrix and Markus is I believe the best player. Bit silly really. Surely he wants more of a challenge! I think Capo should take France since Markus is whining about all those borders Mind you, for selfish reasons, I don't mind Markus there...
I still want the Brits but if you ranked the players and the starts maybe a better game balance could be achieved

LOL!

The Millenium map had virtually equal starts which is preferable, except Markus CONTSTANTLY WINED with CHEESE and CAVIAR about Turkey as his start

But I'm happy to play with what we got and my vote is for Empereor level. (deity level is fine too though)

Capo, the map really looks good and I love the names for the Wonders etc.

If any late changes are to be made I would definitely suggest more ship movement to precipitate quicker intercourse between the nations.

And raging hordes I like but not too appropriate in this game?

Thanks Hydey, that would be great.

I'd like to keep the Brits under the rule of the Aussie contingent

I'll keep you posted if that's OK with Cybershy?

markusf,
I don't really understand if that means you can make it at the times I suggested or not, thus I concider you can make it (I'm sorry, but I keep on being frustrated with timezones)

CyberShy: Confirmed - Deity
SmartFart: Confirmed - Deity
markusf: Confirmed - deity
Zylka: Confirmed - Emperor

Some not so good news...
I can't play this weekend at all, I am at my grandparents' house and forgot to bring my MGE CD with me. Which means I can't play on Friday.

I'm not too sure if that is totally true though, I hear there are some files I can download that would make my regular Civ2 program (which was on this computer already) into an MP program, but there is the map issue, I think this map is technically a GIGAMAP, but I'm not too sure.

In any event I'll have the completed file with Greece in the game by the end of the night, sorry for the up to the last minute response to all this but I am really tied down right now.

Anyway we'll see if we can't circumvent this entire situation. But the mod will be completed and you guys will be rockin'...

Just without your "beloved" Capo.

And Markus, stop b*tching man... "I have too many borders, wha wha wha, boo hoo hoo." Why don't you slide your tampon out and join the rest of us men?

France has a kick ass start...

Peace.

The Capo,

I'm willing to put my CIV2 directory up for download.
I know a hack so you don't need a CD. Then you can play without a cd.

I think just the directory will just be fine. Pherhaps you need to add a few register values.

On the other hand I can of course put the entire civ3 cd for download. (without music files etc.)

email me if you want me to ( robert@plompweb.net )

I'm back!!
Dan Quick has graciously rectified my forum access problem, so you'll have to deal with me once again.

The missing portion of my message was: If you desperately wish to get started Friday, either choose another full-time player, or allow a sub to play for Spain. Unfortunately, I have work that I must do, so I am unable to devote the necessary time tomorrow.

If you choose to use a sub, I'll dive in next week. If you want another permanent player, I can wait 'til the next game. I've been patient this far.

Sorry for the inconvenience, folks, but from perusing the MP forums, this kind of thing happens a lot.

The map is great but this has better equal starts...
Just check this out....

www.ozemail.com.au/~iadkins/EUROPE.zip

It is also a good modpak with revamped units and Wonders BUT the starts are far more equal.

I disagree. As the map stands, France is undoubtedly in the best position, and you should be looking for more of a challenge as the best player. Since you think I'm the one with the unfair start, why don't we trade civs? You can be Germany and I'll take France. Is that fair enough for you?

Yeah for emperor! See you all tommorrow

How about random unrevealed map?
-deity x1x1
-no wonders xcept Manhattan
-no city bribe

That way we have fun with exploring and noone can whine about bad start or missing Hanging Gardens which I never build anyway.

That could be a challenge.

Revealed map sucks.

P.S. Can I replace new units/terrain look with an old one so I can see original graphics?

So far I'm just concerned if we will start this evening.

The Capo can't make it and ajbera can't make it.
Either we need 2 subs for them, otherwise we need
2 other players.

Let's first aim for subs.

Anyone interested ?

I suggest we have a ICQ chat before we start,
then we can figure out all the rules and things we do.
(ie. unrevealed map, playing level etc.)

I've posted the map below.
I've made fictional borders. Those borders aren't there to be 'obeyed' in the game, but just now to see if it's a fair start. (in the 'does france have a better starting postion' case)

- all civilizations have 3 neighbours (except russia and england)
Territory size:
1. Russia
2. Germany
3. Greece
4. Spain
5. France
6. Italy
7. England

Territory Quality:
1. France
2. Spain
3. Germany
4. England
5. Italy
6. Russia
7. Greece

Expansion Possibilities
1. Spain (North Africa)
2. Italy (North Africa + Islands)
3. England (Ireland + Scandinavia)
4. Germany (Scandinavia)
5. France (Scandinavia)
6. Russia (Scandinavia)
7. Greece

(Why ?
- Russia has to build more towards the water before being capable to produce ships before France)

I concider France to have a mediacre starting position because of all of this summed up together.

I suggest we leave the map as it is right now.
Capo, can you finish the map with Greece instead of Holland ? (or someone else pherhaps ?)

No go...
This isn't working out too well

I'm a bit peaved at the moment with another diplo game floundering in the 1300's. I've spent half a year in many sessions involved in two major diplo games and they both seem to have crashed out around 1300AD.

This one is not looking promising at the moment with two players as non-starters and now Markus is saying he won't be here till 3 hours AFTER the scheduled start!

I'm not a starter until all the details and the players are locked down. Sorry, but I'm really upset about the HOTW game falling apart today.

The map is not right for this game. Spain, Italy Greece and possibly Britain will struggle, particularly if the players are not experienced.

The most experienced players have got the very best.
I'm experienced enough to give Britain a fair chance.
You realise that the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain!
Look at the map.....

You can't work this out at the last minute with 3 new players.
For the last week we had 7 players committed to the start time, then on the eve of the game we are down to 4!

Forget it!

I'm not playing to 1300AD again only to see players drop at the last minute with no attempt made to organise a sub.

I'll be online probably to discuss things but I'm really interested in a properly worked out diplo game.

Cybershy's thread here proposed a Euro diplo game, not a standard random civ game!

In fact you're right.
We should finish the game. period.

I won't strugle on the greek map BTW.

And for that reason we can ONLY start if there are 7 players
that WILL 100% be sure that they'll finish the game. period.

But whom can we be sure about right now ?

Deity
SmartFart
CyberShy
Zylka

Let us at least meet this evening, these 4 of us.
Pherhaps we can find other players. In the other thread I started there's already one person that wants to join us.

See ya then.

CS

Ps. you can't contact me over ICQ right now. I'm at work, and my ICQ is turned on at home

Here is my viewpoint :

- Original Cybershy's Euromap looks better to me
- Starting positions were more balanced
- Original modpack is what I prefere
- Deity prevents settlers spitting contest
- No wonders (except Apollo and Manhattan) could provide more balanced game, but we can play with all wonders
- No city bribe is also prefered option, but I can play with it
- I am completely indifferent about nation I am supposed to lead and I am also willing to take last pick
- Revealed map take out very fun part of the game - exploring

Are we going to play this today?

yes, I hope so.
Let's meet, and try to agree with each other on all points,
and find 7 players that have full trust in a complete game with all 7 players.

If we find less players (5 or 6) we might even start a 5 or 6 player game (eventhough I prefer 7 very much)

I'm not sure about the map. I like Capo's map very much.
Pherhaps we should tweak it a little and make some minor changes.

deity level with no wonders apart from Manhattan and apollo sounds best idea for a relasitic diplo game, will require more thought and city development not just mass growth...

Havent quite done the conversion for Aust time yet...

Gentlemen, a moment of your time please.

Okay? Right, I know it's been said before
The fact of the matter is that diplogames are not the same as a 2x 2x MP quickie. It's going to take time, bruised ego's, aggrevation, technical difficulties and a LOT of dedication. If you plan to participate in a diplogame you must plan to set a day in your agenda and inform the rest if you won't be able to make it in the upcoming week.

These games last months, you can't handle this offhand. Get organized!

In the end it's worth it, completing a diplogame actually is a worthwhile experience.

P.S
I like the European map, does it use ocean squares as real rivers or the standard river ones?

Okay people here's how its gonna be...
Since everyone is whining about how they don't know if they can play unless its all set up, and about the hardships of a Diplogame lemme tell you how this is going to work...

Deity you understand me here cuz we've been through HOTW, the best Diplogame ever IMHO but its had snags like every other diplogame.

The first issue is the map, the map we are using is the map I put up. It is the most accurate map of Europe, it is the best map of Europe in existance. There can be no arguments here because it just is, Jesus Munoz or Balisade or whatever made this map and they did a damn good job. So this is the one we are using.

Starting positions. Here's how its going to be, regardless of your b*tching and moaning. You pick your damn nation, Great Britain, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Kosovo, Turkey whatever and that's what you are going to get. I hate people who like to just play far apart simply because of that, pick a nation you know about, pick a nation you are going to have fun with, pick a nation with a personality you like and with names and customs you are familiar with. The personal touch will make all the difference in roleplaying, in representation and in interest. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

As for the wonders and that jazz, we are keeping it in, I am goin to make an awesome modpack for this game. You guys may disagree with what I am going to say, you may not like the way the modpack turns out on paper, you may even say "This is retarded, Capo is a moron" but believe me my friends, this will be the greatest European modpack the world has ever seen. When you play the game everything will work so perfectly you will think I am some kind of zen master of Civ. Deity vouch for me amigo.

As far as I am concerned there are THREE people in this game, there is Capo, Deity and CyberShy our Dutch founder and all around good guy. I am whiping the board clean and making an entirely new scenario that you guys are going to love, you may dislike it initially but you are going to be on my jock trust me. Four more people must sign up for the job, I know four are interested but I want this to be settled again seperately. Capo is Italy. Cybershy is Greece and Deity is Great Britain. I need four other European nations, real European nations, past present, congolomrations (Iberian Federation, Scandinavian Union etc) as long as they make historic sense.

We are going to play this coming Saturday, the modpack will be completed Thursday for review.

Any and all suggestions will be taken into serious consideration, the final will be released Friday, which is the next day. Everyone that is playing will download it. Saturday we will convene to play this game at a time that has yet to be announced.

I hope that clears everything up, I am the Capo, this is what I do, deal with it.

Peace.

In fact I don't really care about the map or my starting location.

The only question I have, Capo, can you use the normal unit graphics ? Those are the graphics me and most others are used with. That's important for game overview, I think.

If I see an army moving over the map I want to know at once
what kinda army it is, how dangerous it is and how I can fight it.
That's only possible with the graphics of the original game, I think.

The longer we wait, the less play time I have before my vacation.
I'm away from August 1st until August 23rd.
Besides my vacation I can ALWAYS play at the times as I've written them down.
