Do we need to fix the OCC?
There's been a lot of talk about "fixing" ICS, the gamebreaker that lots of folks use.

What about OCC? Is it really that reasonable that a single city, even the greatest in the world, has the resources to produce the worlds first interstellar craft?
Or does it require some refinement of the rules to discourage such tactics?

What do you think?

OK Funk, The OCC can be explored in the Great Library in the civ2 strategy forum.
Basically, it is where you only build one city, and win by being the first to land on Alpha Centauri. You only build enough armies to protect your city, and put most of your resources into science and science wonders. This uses several tricks in the game to maximize production and science, and some people have reported landings from one city in the 1700's.

Is this anything like realistic? it's like switzerland leading the space race.

interesting idea. never thought that way, consider myself a real ICS-sucker

does this really work on the higher levels? AI civs can be really nasty towards smaller civs...

on terms of realistic or not, a given factor must be that the city has all the resources available to build a space shuttle and such improvements.

and after what we´ve seen so far, civ III will contain alot more unique resources, making trading a of bigger importance to keep your cities top trim.

this will make the player having to build a few cities himself, to buy everything would probably be to expensive if the city´s priority is science.

SO, i don´t think we have to worry....

The OCC on Deity/Raging Hordes has been done many, many times. It's really not that hard (note: so far I've only done it on Emperor, but then again I've only tried once on Deity). The really amazing thing is the One City Size 1 Challenge. Deity/Raging hordes. Landing in the 1890s by samson. There's no trickery; random map, no cheating. The point of the OCC is that the AI becomes friendly when you're extremely weak, militarily, and only catches on once you've developed Space Flight.

well, that was civ II...everything we´ve seen so far hints that civ III will be a rather different and more realistic game....so...
