Dan Quaile?
Who is that, I've heard it a few times here and on Civ3's website, but who is he?

ADG, The connection is that Dan Quayle, a republican,
was considered by some (especially democrats, of course) to be
a complete idiot. Thus he was chosen to represent
the lowest rank of leader in Civ I. Ironically, one of
the main reasons he was ridiculed was that he was a
bad speller. So when I first saw the subject heading
of this thread, I wondered if the thread-starter had
intentionally spelled his name incorrectly as joke.

Not only that, but a schoolchild had written it on a blackboard and he told the kid to put an "e" on the end.

I don't want to insult anyone (we in Italy have our problem, you know), but considering the result you mention, may be we should suggest Firaxis to add some bad unique Civ effect to U.S.A. Democracy: every some time, as a random event called "election" occur, you have a probability that your leader lost half of his international reputation

Or when you get George Bush you get a 50% pollution penalty...

Bush should be the new lowest rank to achieve in Civ3.

or pherhaps it should just be that if you chose 'Americans' you'll lose the game automaticly.

like "You've never been there before, when you arived you got words with the people that came there before you and with the people that stayed there where you came from, then you get words with yourself as well and in the end criminality grows above your head. Oh, and you don't have any culture anyway thus........ game over"

can you condider this to be a hate post

stupid american bashers.

IMHO, we shouldn't be the international police that we somehow came to be today.

not only that, i hate all the hicks / fanatic patriots who basically say they're better than the rest of the world because they live in america...

americans aren't better than anyone. infact i think were #4 or something for standard of living.

also, bill clinton was a great president. im a registerred republican, but i will say that he was a great president. he did many great things for our country. and i bet Bush messes it all up again with his tax cut.

oh well.

when i graduate from college i'm thinking about moving to the netherlands. i just don't want to learn dutch.

I really don't want to get involved in this discussion, but I think a person should actually live in a country before they talk about it too much. I COULD say a lot of things about some of the other countries represented in these forums.

Someone has to do it. Better us than China.

I do not believe that I'm a fanatic. Patriots yes but not a fanatic.

Would someone tell me what is this standard of living is? The freedom to move around, buy anything except an UZI Damn or pretty much do as I want.

This one we will not agree on. I was a democrat when he was elected and I did not vote for him either time.

Actually he was very smart, but a terrible speller and something spoke when he should have kept him mouth close. He came up with a lot of idea that the Democrats said was no good and as soon as Clinton was elected the Demo took all of Quayle idea and said the idea was their own and ran with them.

you wont have to! the culture here in Europe is getting more Americanized by the day (especially the Netherlands). If you really dont want to learn a new language, go to the Frisian Islands, the German they speak there is like English with an accent!

I personally dont believe in nationalism or patriotism or whatever you call it. You think you should be proud of your country then you look at the Chinese on TV waving their flags in celebration of the Olympics going to Beijing and wonder why they are so proud of their country just because theyre oppressed a little bit more than you are. The embargoes on Iraq have killed more innocent civilians than soldiers in the Gulf War. And it is the same in the USA, Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, or China today. It was the driving force in all the major wars this century (WWI, WWII, the Cold War, Korea, Viet Nam) and it's a virus that infects the entire world, pitting nations against one another for no rational reason.

Is it just me or is this thread becoming political?

Why do you Americans only have two parties? That seems strange to me as you have very limited choice politically. And I must say your election system is quite odd; the person with fewer votes wins!

There are actually quite a few parties. The republicans and democrats are just the largest two.

ummm..... no. The system in place is complicated and left over from a time when news traveled very slowly and only a small number of people had knowledge of the candidates. There has been a lot of discussion about changing to a popular vote system.

I agree it is hard to be dispassionate, either from the outside looking in or from the inside looking out. That is what academic qualifications in political science, long experience of politics and political discussion forums are for. The quality of debate here is understandably lower since it is not our primary focus, thank goodness .

I am tempted to challenge the accuracy of joseph1944's footnote but I ... will ... resist ...

It will not happen in my life time or your or even my grandchildren (8 and 5) lifetime. They have to call for a Constitutional Congress section. The bill I believe will have to start in the House and pass and then move to the Senate and pass and then sent to all 50 State Legislator to be pass and then to the President to be sign into law. It would be the same old game. Right now the Demo would pass it and the Republican would not pass it. In 04 if a Democrat was President than the Demo would not pass it and the Republican would.

I didn't say it was going to happen any time soon. I merely said that it's been discussed.
