I am much too much of a greenie to give lessons about downloading.
Anyway, here is what I have understood: to play this scenario, you need to download the scenario itself (you must have done that since you were the one who started the game). Then you download the savegame you are willing to play now, and the savegame must be at the same address (in the same directory) as the scenario.
Perhaps your problem now is not that one. Perhaps it is the reverse of the problem I met when trying to play, namely the slight difference between the English and the French version of the game. Julius has found a solution which allowed him, then me, to play 10 turns each. Perhaps it is necessary to apply that also when coming back to the English version. Unfortunately, Julius is on holiday.
IMO, here is what can be done:
1) You check whether the savegame is in the same directory as the scenario.
2) If yes, and if problems are still there (strong units and the like) you ask SG1.
3) If SG1 has no solution, we wait until Julius comes back (we can also write to the author; he gave an address somewhere, I am sure).

I can get close but not all the way to loading the game correctly. Ecthelion, if you'd like to take my place, please feel free to give it a shot.

Sorry, guys.

No more for me plese
sorry guys, this is way beyond my ablity to endure. I just downlaoded the file and played from where it was and found due to the changes in graphics and not knowing what to build because i dont the what unit is what i couldnt plan ahead.
I obviously dont play like you guys, you had london maxed out on science with food caravans arriving, i stuffed that up first turn before relaising what the food caras were for and how to deliver them properly. Whilts i would love to be able to continue to paly and learn, i feel that my ineptness will only detract from the game and ruin it for all of you.

so i hereby regretfully resign...

Raz
1) About the settings in London ('starving city' with food caravans coming in from other cities), I chose to send my savegame in a 'half-starving' situation to show how it works. You can either make the city starve more, hiring new specialists in order to increase science or gold, or make it stop starving (for example choose settings that give at least one food in excess; in that case the food caravans can be used to go on increasing the size of the city swiftly).
2) About downloading
Did you get a game that looked 'normal' (without strange units or other oddities)?
3) About your resigning
Of course you are free to resign if you don't feel like playing this game any longer. But if the reason is that you don't want to spoil the game for us, please don't be afraid to go on. This is a succession game and anyone of us knows that he might be somewhat surprised by the savegame he receives.

(La Fayette, asking Raz to go on)

LaFayette - as noone else appearz to have done so - yes your zip file worked fine - thanks
Raz - do continue, if you feel that you made an unholy mess of your turn - why not start those ten turns over again with a little hindsight we can all improve - we are all learning this game I assure you, just because some of us seem a little further on the learning curve than others is not a cause for despair, rather a hope for improvement -- by the bye you areby far the most experienced MPer here - so we look to learn somethings from you!
kc - as long as you unzip the save game into the same directo0ry as you have the scenario files (rules.txt, units.gif etc) there should be few problems

all - off on holiday - to France - for a fortnight - consequently out of the loop - feel free to miss out my turn rather than hold up the game ....

I tried to download into the same directory and I did lose the carriers, bombers, et al. But I also lost the new city improvements pertaining to the scenario. I'll give it another try tonight but don't wait on me. Let someone else, Ecthelion?, go ahead and move on. If I get if figured out by my next turn, I'll jump back in.

And Rasputin, the fun of a succession game is to see how other players handle situations and give them (and yourself) a hard time in your posted narratives. Hang in there, buddy.

Gets up for one more effort
ok guys i will try again, but forgive me if i set you back a few turns...

And as for MP. nothing in MP can prepare you for SP ... In MP the ability to negotiate is the highest , unless you playing boring Duels ... But in REAL MP.. Diplomacy is king ...

You are forgiven, Raz.
I suppose that all the other advisers will be happy to see you have a second try (and King Apolyton V is not a ruthless despot; I bet he will say thank you for your advice).
(why not have a try at bribing those barb cities in the east, for example?). No, no: this is a succession game. You do precisely what you like, Raz.

After a full week of great vacations, I am back
I didn't find the "trésor des templiers", but it was cool
How's the game proceeding ?
LaFayette has made us rich
And now

Dommage pour le trésor! (il paraît qu'il va être converti en euros)

About the game, it seems that kcbob met huge technical problems and decided to give up (hopefully only for this turn).
Rasputin was also about to give up, but decided to have a second try. I suppose he's playing it now, but there is no hurry since the SGs are next on the list and they are on vacation (also in France, but a bit farther away from the treasury ).
Meanwhile SG2 and Marquis de Sodaq have started their own games and played about 50 turns each. I found it fun and started mine. I have played over a century now: TOUGH .

(I don't wish to tell the details now, but I am convinced that it will be fun to compare our strategies)

I'm still around and following the thread/logs. I still haven't succeeded in loading the game but then, I haven't tried all that much. I'll give it another shot and hopefully be ready for the next time around. Until then, death to the infidels!!!

I follow Raz on the list. Once he posts his log, I'll have a go. The SGs follow me. Did the game get bollocks-ed up with the language change? Is that why kcbob is having trouble?

No, it shouldn't have anything to do with the languages : the saved file is the same. Kcbob, why not reinstall the scenario in another folder and then try again. There is no reason it shouldn't work. Unzip the scen in the new folder, then put the saved game in that folder. It should work
Ok Rasputin and then the Marquis. I think Kcbob should play as soon as he is ready and not wait for everybody to play, especially since the SG's are on holidays.
And what about Etchellion who was ready to help the military plans of Raspoutine

The SGs are in France, but not in Paris. I don't feel allowed to tell where they are discussing their secret plans.
Anyway, you have no need to be afraid of their reaction since the adviser who comes after you is 'Monsieur le Marquis de Sodaq' who is a real gentleman. I am sure he wouldn't say a nasty word, even if he were very unsatisfied with the savegame he receives.
kcbob
Follow Julius advice. I think it is good advice, since both Rasputin and SG1 managed to load my savegame without any problem.

Where are the Gits in France
I want to solve this mystery
A part ça, le trésor des templiers, même en anciens francs aurait bien aidé le financement de notre croisade !
C'mon boys, let's play !

The gits are not far from the city which is considered by many (myself included) as the capital of 'goat cheese' (cheese made with goat milk).
One more hint: the name of that city is 'holy'.

Now my new signature line spares me the need to make any snide commentary about previous turns.

When I think 'goat cheese,' I think Chevre or Montrechet (spelling?). Or is this inferior fromage that gets shipped overseas because the French won't touch it?

I do like your new sig (but I confess that those dunkeys also made me dream now and then).
'Chèvre' is the french word for 'goat': should be OK.
'Montrechet': never heard that name (perhaps it is a new sort of cheese that appeared after the US created that 100% overtax, which applies to 'Roquefort' and perhaps some other kinds ).
There are many kinds of goat cheese in this country, but the one I wrote about is considered the best by all cheese specialists AFAIK).

Roquefort
I mentioned 'Roquefort' because of the tax, but there is not an ounce of goat cheese in it (neither goat, nor cow, then guess what?).

Marquis, have you gone on playing your own 'crusades' game whilst waiting for Raz's savegame?
I went on playing mine and can give you a summary of the speech held by King Lionsheart in Jerusalem on the 17th of august 1263:
'Béni soit le Seigneur et honni soit qui mal y pense.
Le Saint Sépulcre est désormais sous bonne et chrétienne garde'.

No, I've not even had the computer on for the last four days. Some Dutch-speaking people showed up on friday, then my sister arrived on saturday. Since then we've eaten like swine (feta included) and geouwehoerd. I'll return to the virtual crusade soon enough...

Another Russian revolution
Maybe a remake of the cold war between Kansas (Kcbob) and tsarist Russia (Rasputin)
Marquis, I think (but I am not the only one involved), I think you should take advantage of the circumstances and proceed in the game.
The holy land has long enough belonged to the infidels

I have downloaded the 1165 save game, and it looks to work properly. As kcbob and Rasputin have thrown in the proverbial towel, I shall forthwith behead heathens! The Archbishop of Sodaq rides again!

(I'll play tonight if possible, otherwise on the morrow...)

The crusade continues...
1166ad - The Archbishop of Sodaq resumes control of the floundering crusade. He orders workers to new tasks, speeding research to 21 turns per tech.

1167 - The heathens of Konigsburg are converted for a fat sack of gold. Our preachers explained to them that they are going to hell, but that the winters are quite warm there. They wholeheartedly embraced our glorious religion. Some chump named Machiavelli, no doubt on the HRE payroll, published a history of the most powerful kingdoms. The English are called hopeless!

1168 - The Holy GeRomans discover the secret of the Compass. How convenient... We shall dispatch a nosy missionary to extract this secret knowledge. A caravel is sent off the explore the northlands.

1170 - Saladin is crowned Sultan of the heathens.

1171 - Our nosy missionary has sacrificed himself for our cause. The postman delivered an envelope containing detailed instructions about the compass! Now our Nay-Vee shall grow. Oops! Our caravel delivering goods accidentally sinks an Andalusian ship. Missionaries convert the chilly city of Uppsala for another sack of gold.

1172 - Gem merchants arrive in Marieburg. The church earns 84 gold.

1173 - Our knowledgeable monks have invented the Crossbow! No more flimsy defenders for us. Hopeless? Ha!

1174 - Our fleet delivers Wine to Seville for 97 gold. Missionaries on the eastern front convert Gnesen.

1175 - We deliver wine and dye to Cordoba for 593 gold! Alas, our brave ships ended the year stranded in a nest of Andalusian bad guys. Oh, well, we'll be upgrading the fleet soon with our new knowledge. Godspeed to our sailors who will soon be on their way to heaven.

The Archbishop steps down as leader of the crusade. Research is down to 19 turns/tech. Only one more meaningful tech to study, theology. The barracks are now rolling out knights and other brave fighters for the spread of the Anglican Word. Satisfied with his work, de Sodaq goes off to visit the convent. Those curvy young nuns grow quite lonely, you know...
