And I agree... my easiest games are those where I have some crummy terrain and 4-7 techs, but there's a good 3 or 4 special site within easy wandering distance

My most frustrating ones are where I wander and wander... and suddenly it's 2000 BC

@rjm - I find that if I want techs, playing as the Americans/Chinese/Persians will usually get me some. I think you're right, playing as the Romans/Russians will probably yield fewer techs.

I've had monarchy in 4000 BC before :joy:

and I personally never wander around, 1 tile wandering is max...
