Can the Fancy Leader Graphics Be Turned Off?
Can Civ 3's new enhanced diplomacy function without the fancy leader graphics? Can they be turned off as in Civ 2, or will you lose a functioning diplomacy/alliance screen without them?

Personally, I find them nothing but annoying, especially given who they picked for the leaders. I had the same problem with with the envoy graphics in Civ II and turned them off. Can I do the same with the fancy leader graphics in Civ 3 and still retain the use of the new diplomacy features?

You can't find them annoying as you haven't played the game.

Mao as leader of China in 4000 BC is ANNOYING.

Queen Elizabeth as leader of Britain at anytime is ANNOYING.

An ahistorical hyper-PC black as a Zulu Pharoah is, ipso facto, ANNOYING!

Abe Lincoln as leader of America to this Southerner is ANNOYING!

Lenin as leader of Russia (is that who it will be again?) would be ANNOYING!

I don't have to play with them. Just thinking about them ANNOYS me.

To have one personalized Leader for Civs spanning 6000 years of history is an absurd and annoying concept to begin with! But to have to look at their morphing and aging faces knowing that so many basic improvements in game play and customizability were sacrificed for the sake of their gawking mugs would just gall me. So, I'd like to turn off the feature if I can do so without compromising game play as it just detracts from my enjoyment of the game.

You originally said you were annoyed with the graphics. I don't see how turning those off will change the leaders.

If I turn them off, I won't have to look at them or contemplate their ahistorical absurdity. Therefore, I will not be annoyed by them because their morphing and aging mugs won't be intruding on my game play. I want to play Civilization. I do not want to play "Watch the Leader's faces morph and age". That is nothing but a frivolous distraction from the real strategic heart of the game (assuming that too hasn't been sacrificed for the sake of superfluous graphical fireworks).

Cathreine the Great of Russia, not Stalin.

and im SURE they'll have an option to turn em off, like in civ2, you can turn off the heralds, and even the whole diplomacy window if u want

Arator as a spammer in 2001 AD is ANNOYING. If you have a legit question, which you seem to have, be civil when asking it. Don't jump down another's throat just because you can.

Don't you mean Egyptian?

This is sad. No, it might not be accurate. No, you may not like who Firaxis picks. However, you will either live with it or not play the game.

Well, sweetie, just edit them to your liking or something. I, personally, care much more for personality and "fun" factor than any historical crap.
