Civ 3 GOLD or Expansion?
Would you like to see another version of Civ 3 released later on, if so when? And what would you like to see included?

What id like to see is an expansion pack that allowed more than seven enemy civilizations in a standard game at once!! A limit of perhaps 16 would be more to my liking.
And the screens for diplomacy/etc that allow us to see them all of course

You should define the difference between the various versions.

If by GOLD you mean a later version that include all the expansions, and you don't need the original to play, my answer is "both".

Why not?

You can have 16 civs at once. You just need to adjust it in the editors. An option in the beginning would be nice, if they got around to adding it.

AFAIK you can only have 7 civs in a standard game, and in scenarios or such you can bump the civs up to 16...

If you can have 16 civs in a standard game (confirmation of this anyone??) then that would be more than welcome news

From Jeff Morris Interview
Apolyton: Will there be 7 civs in a game like civ2 and smac or more? We have heard almost any possible choice on this
Jeff Morris: Supported, there will be 7 civilizations in a game, 8 including the player. The editor allows you to adjust this, though many screens are setup only for this 8 civ limit.
(sidenote: when asked what the limit of the editor will be, Jeff responded that the tools are still in development and that the current limit is 16)
It sounds like we can have 16 in a standard game, it'll just take a bit of extra work.

What would you like to see released after Civ 3?
Civ 3 GOLD 3 17.65%
Civ 3 Expansion 11 64.71%
Nothing 1 5.88%
Other 2 11.76%

Looks fairly conclusive.

Why would anyone vote for nothing?

What do you mean by these titles. If you mean the Civ II gold edition, the game is already going to have MP support. If you mean SMAC style expansion that is just more civs.

If your asking what you would prefer to call the game, then this is a really stupid poll and feel bad that I am even wasting my time reading and then posting on it.

Because I would like to see a completed product that is not in any need of additions, and because I strongly dislike paying twice for the same game.
I just upped the 'nothing' percentage to 8 with my vote.

I agree. I think about 90% of the people ont he forums agree that the major thing needed is an expansion pack dealing with civs, the number of them, and the number you can have in a game.

Scenarios would also be cool, but i heard firaxis is planning to ship 12 of them with the game anyway, and people on here make better scenarios anyway.

peace out

edit: i just found this at Civ Fanatics Center

"Civ3 will include a "very robust" civilization editor. You will be able to create new civilizations, import them into the game, and share them with other players. "

an expansion pack adds new things to the game, in the case of civ, features, units civs ect. it is sold seperatly from the game.

a gold edition includes expansion pack(s) released for a game and it comes with the original game too.

so before you can have a gold edition an expansion pack must be released. therefore my vote goes to expansion.

Well, maybe the gold edition will be sold not in a tin box, but in a golden box!

Guess it will be expensive then!

Actually, those greedy bastards at Maxis like to skip straight to the 'gold edition' and charge everyone full price for some new graphics. Sorry, it's a pet peeve of mine.

I would like an expansion pack, with some new features( like in SMAC, but not any aliens, please ), as a new, improved AI, that can always be better, I think. But could someone tell me if it is possible to do that in a patch? If so, it is maybe no need for that. And also some tweaks in the game, don't know what now of course.

BTW, Alex: good poll!!!

In these days the word "patch" has been stretched up to cover almost everything

You know SMAC got some "improvements" (patches) before Alien Crossfire expansion was released.

Using that patches process, Firaxis not only removed bugs, but tweaked some game variable, balanced some factions, added some (minor) features, added some special terrain.

The real limits, if not for download dimension that already needs a Very Large Band connection, or a dedicated satellite , is how much it cost to the company to add things on a free upgrade.

As long as the free support help the company, sustaining the game selling, all looks very well and good.
I hope (and already posted this one time too much ) that Firaxis will support us for long time, helping (not resting on their effort) best fan MODS and scenario adding professional touch and an official presence as "recommended" on Civ III site.
