%Great Library Entry - DaveV's ICS Strategy
** Dons asbestos suit and cringes behind substantial firewall **

Friends, may I have the temerity to propose this as the first official entry into the Great Library of Apolyton.

===================
Title: DaveV's ICS Strategy Guide
Summary:
DaveV expounds his purist approach to the Infinite City Strategy in which absolutely no improvements are built in any city and trade has no rôle to play. The only exception allowed to this rule is the construction of a few key Wonders, notably the Hanging Gardens.

I don't wish to be seen to be stomping on anyone's toes or taking too many liberties, I would welcome comments as to concept and layout - and particularly DaveV - your permission to publish this - I am currently infringing both your copyright and intellectual property right and would not wish to continue to do so without your explicit permission ...

** continues to cower and awaits responses **

The DaveV stamp of approval - :stamp:. With a few reservations about the "Anglicizing" of some of my spellings .

One additional advantage of the "no improvements" strategy that struck me as I was reading the conclusion: you don't need to worry about diplos/spies sabotaging improvements. Certain players have been known to use this obnoxious tactic in MP games...

Thanks DaveV
** raises head briefly above parapet **
Anglicised did he say Anglicised - I prepared the document in Word with a UK spellchecker and published it using FrontPage with a US spellchecker - and I changed every one - defence, labour, civilise all went the way of all flesh, but I drew the line at 'maneuvre' do you still pronounce it man-oo-ver in the States? it looks to me like something you would shout when someone falls off a ship "Maneuvre board!!".
That's my story anyway and I'm sticking to it!
** ducks back behind shelter **
Thanks again DaveV

OK, maybe the other "funny" spellings (e.g., the circumflex on "role", "Utilisation") were your own additions rather than alterations of my original text. It still presents something of a sytlistic hodgepodge. More nitpicking criticisms: the fourth sentence in "Utilization of 'Special' Squares" ends in "it"; this should be changed to "them", or the sentence could be reworded to straighten out the mix of plural and singular. Also, I would prefer "can easily be beaten" to the current wording in the last sentence of "General Strategy".

I don't mean to come off overly harsh here. Overall, I'd say your document is an improvement to my original. I'm just a little compulsive about fine-tuning writing that has my name on it (it used to be murder in college, when retyping meant rolling a new sheet into the typewriter).

Thanks again - now under revision ...
Changes incorporated - is this better?
(my US spellchecker does not flag utilisation! - must be a bug)

Nicely done! I particularly like the table for the improvement of squares by cities.

(DaveV searches vainly for other things to complain about)

Nice work, SG1! It's a little bit humbling to see someone put so much effort into making my ramblings available to all. Now I'll have to gird my loins and prepare to face a world of sleazers...

Great work!

A beautiful site too!

Only one question: Why on earth have you listed me as a contributor?

Unless you're referring to the numerous times Dave has kicked the crap out of me with that strat!

Again, great work! May I be so bold as to propose that you somehow incorporate Paul's excellent OCC Guide (with his kind permission of course!)?

I'm surprised noone else has posted here...

Man, that is a beautiful job. I only just now went to look at it. I was waiting for someone to insert the text up above at the link.

Any further comments, or shall we consider it, "Job done"?

Agreed, very good. Though I don't like these Americanised spellings much...

Have a look at MarkusF's strat on the MP forum.

Personally I don't use ICS. Most of us Deity level Multiplayers use a combination of strats, with much hingeing on who gets the "happy" wonders. WLTD is very popular. If barbs are at raging, which they usually are, and if max ai civs are also in the game, which they usually are, you need a combo of strats.

Of course I hope Civ 3 will be a great game - but there is a bit of me that will be sad if it consigns The Great Game to the bin.

Which means that the GL is timely. It will, in that case, serve as a splendid epitaph to the skills and to the style of our generation.

I, for one, would assuredly pop my head round the door for a strong shot of nostalgia from time to time and to pay homage to the current crop of dedicated players.

Of course, if Civ 3 sadly turns out to be a waste of space the GL will live long and prosper for other reasons.

Meanwhile, congratulations to DaveV and to the Gits.

I second the nomination of the Paulicy for the next place on those shelves reserved for the finest scrolls.
