Scenario Editor Help
so I've jumped back into SMAX after about 6-8 months and I've forgotten how to get some new scenario elements together. if anyone knows about any documentation, tutorials, answers, I sure would appreciate it. here are the questions:

a. start SMAX, Scenario->Create, Load Map->[map file]

I cannot create bases for factions, only units. I also cannot seem to start the game briefly to create a base out of a previously created Colony Pod either. what am I missing here? the scenario should start out as a typical game.

b. is there a way in scenario creation to have a random base location startup?

I have gone thru the SMAX book and directory for info, but found little. any other sources to answer my questions?

thanks.

alternate method, possibly answering both your questions.
Start a normal game (not multiplayer), setting the parameters you prefer/need.
You might want to activate LookFirst and play with Gaia, but that's not crucial.
Hit Ctrl+K, activating the scenario editor.
Go on from there.
Save as scenario.

Don't know whether this will work within the scenario editor, but it's worth a try:

Create a colony pod, then immediately found a new base.

Edit: Oops! I just re-read your original post--looks like you've already tried this. Sorry.

Create the units (including the Colony Pod)

Choose the "scenario" option from the menu and within that, "switch sides/set view" then "all" (last on the choices after all your factions)

This then lets you play a turn for all factions sequentially, letting you build the bases, then edit their pops, facilities, SP,s etc - note that you can still add units to that base from the "create unit" option
