It wasn't a guess.

Heck, even a crappy warrior like myself have (with, I have to admit, a great deal of luck) been able to conquer a normal (unknown) map in 740 AD. What wouldn't a war guru ā la Dave be able to do with a known map?

yes, dave
That one was probably one of the greatest civ2 comparison games ever played.
Why not try another one if some (good) players feel like it?
In that case, count me in!
(some of us are now having great fun playing a huge succession game on a huge world map made by Julius - look at the thread 'the truest gift of gods' on civ2 General forum - but IMO comparison can be even more fun than succession)

The main problem would be choosing the size of the map ('tiny' might look like schoolwork to some of us, but 'huge' takes such a long time...).
What do you think, folks?

Just a newbie, feeling my way around... Still learning the Mac/Zip thing (a couple tentative failed attempts) so I can post results, but once I get that together, I'll definitely be interested in a comparison game as a learning tool.

I've only ever played medium maps, still trying for first Deity win (getting closer!).

Looking at this thread (have only spot-checked pages 1 and 4), I see no way that I'll compare favorably with the game-addicted maniacs managing pre-Renaissance launches. (I have to wonder if Civ2 remains as fun with the level of micromanagement needed to compete on that level...) But what the heck. I'm bound to learn a lot, so let's rock!

Thanx for reviving this, DaveV and LaFayette.
