An enhanced settler or worker type of unit. It could either work faster, or be cheaper. This would be to demonstrate that America tranformed wilderness into an industrial society very quickly.

Minuteman - stats somewhere between a musketeer and rifleman, with partisan abilities.

Historically the Minutemen were ineffective in battle. If they could reduce the stats and along with a reduction in cost and an increase in speed, that would be cool. America could have swarms of cheap minutemen that overwhelm its enemies.

Its true that minuteman weren't great in battle. They were just militia after all.

I do like the idea of special guerrila fighters, perhaps they'd get a bonus for attacking from forrests. That was when the minutemen were most effective.

On the other hand, the settler unit would be reasonable, a special settler that could do everything the civ2 settler does.

I'll vote for the Minuteman as well.

We can use the same logic for Minutemen that Civ3 is already using for the Persian Immortals. Yeah, they might not have been more effective in battle individually, but their sheer numbers and the quickness with which they were mobilized essentially equate to improved stats.

Also, I don't want to overload the Americans with late-game power units.

While I think the Minuteman is a good idea, I think the Enhanced Settler or Worker is brilliant idea. That truly would be a Unique Unit and one that can be easily defined in its context.

The U.S. used the carriers to dominate the sea for much of the 20th Century. An important fixture in the military even today although many military strategists now say they are obsolete.

It should be the unique unit.

Minutemen would be a cool unit but seems to only fit in Revolutionary war scenarios.

The settler would be good, but I think the militia is truly american. 1860s american militia could beat 1940s British "Homeguard." The Revolutionary war and the first years of the (american) civil war were fought (almost) completely with militia. It would fit into a good time period too, after the french musketeers and before the german panzers. because they obviously werent the best fighters, they should get a movement bonus (treat all terrain like road?) and/or a defensive bonus when in its own (home?) city radius

how u like my ... 3rd post?

I could beat the entire British Home Guard. By myself. As long as I had a heavy stick of some kind.

Considering the AI probably WON'T be able to utilize carriers, Enterprise Class would be a dumb idea. I go for minutemen also. Sure they weren't so effective but they also could came from the citizenry with little training. So make the cost equal to infantry unit of the time (to represent increased manpower or whatever) and keep attack/defense equal (again, increased manpower/guerilla tactics) - but increase speed (guerilla tactics and the ability to mobilize locals by using riders) and no special resources like the Indian Elephant UU (fighters bring their own stuff to the battle).

I always thought a good idea would be that it ignores all deffense bonuses for enemy troops besides fortify and City Walls... I meen they were BEST when Fighting in the woods...

Comments?
