The American Dream
Which ancient city style will the American civ get in Civ3? Does anyone know why they had the classical style in Civ2? Wouldn't the medieval style have been more accurate, considering their European roots...

How about ranch style houses. Big sprawling American suburb things. Would be fun to see them in the ancient era. You Euro types could let out your warlike impules by gutting American cities.

(Or to stop being silly...they could start as teepees, then become log cabins, then Brady bunch style things.)

Well.... I don't think there were any castles in America, nor were there pyramids or pagodas, which leaves the classical forum stuff. That seems to have the most resemblance.

At least its better than the Indians, who ended up with pagodas!

LOL. I guess it's best to just try not to think about mismatches like this.

The Americans will definitly get Iroquois-style city graphics. They are, afterall, only going to be ~10 squares away from the Iroquois starting place, anyway.

Either that, or they should get a civ2 europe style look.

Neo-classical was in style when the US was started, so most of the federal gov't buildings down here in DC are done in the classical style with columns and such. In fact most state capitol buildings are classical as well.

It seems to be the obvious choice to me.

What about something western? Adobe houses, log cabins and the like.

I think that if they were going to do Federal style they'd jsut keep the Med. Ancient graphics since they closely resemble one another.

Old west looking cities would be great. A size three city with a big 'Saloon' sign would be so amusing.

Americans are in the same "culture groups" as Iroquis and Aztec, so they are likely to get similar/identical buildings, depending upon the Firaxis creativity

It WOULD be the obvious choice if we were talking about 18th and 19th century, and not ancient or medieval times.

The americans should of course get the european ancient style. But actually the americans shouldnt be in the game, only indians should be in since there were no americans in america 4000bc.

What? By that logic barely anyone would be in the game. I don't think that too many of the 16 civs were fully formed 6000 years ago. (I am assuming that by Indians you are referring to Native Americans or Amerindians and not people from India, who are also in the game)

Oh, and technically, the Native Americans crossed the Bering Strait from Asia. But this is really another/many threads, please go to those threads to debate the merits of America as a Civ.

As to what their "houses" should look like, maybe start with either, Neo-Classical or Europe Ancient, then go to Europe Medieval or Log Cabins, then Brick, then Skyscrapers/Suburbs. Or maybe throw stucco buildings somewhere in there.

If the Indians from India have pagodas, it may not be that unreasonable.

While it is silly to have towns looking like that, the Chinese and Japanese pagodas are simply adaptations of Indian stupas. Both are Buddhist devotional structures.

why not make it really fun let the Americans start with their setler in 1420ad(Columbus if I'm not mistaking, never mind)
then Romans start in 500Bc
Egypt in 2500BC(or earlier???)
the French and the Germans in 500ad(or when was it exactly that Western Europe splitted(sp??) up and Frech and Germans arose and started fighting)
...
(hey if you want to play really really hard then you can be the Belgians, founding settler in 1830 surrounded by German and French empire...you wouldn't be worriing about your city style then )

Well, Egypt and China existed at that time, and the Sumerians were developing around that time.

Civilization isn't always about perfect historical accuracy. Having a world map that had a random form is enough to blow away any requirement of being 100% historically accurate.

Bring back the Mongols, the Spanish, the Arabs, the Incas, the Celts, the Vikings and the Carthaginians!

Was it so hard to provide a bigger variety of civs?

Ehhmmm, on-topic now, the Americans should follow the English style, except for industrial and modern, where the proper saloons, skyscrapers, suburbia, etc should be added.

But they should be careful not to show any WTC type towers: if an air attack is made in such a city and the population drops, the changing graphic might vanish the towers. This could be an adequate reason for Sid to get arrested for passing subliminal messages in favor of terrorism!
