Correction on one of the Tank graphics
second post... here we go...

I've been following the development and the posting of new images from the game. Recently I've seen people trying to "identify" certain graphics from teh units screenshot.

One of them has struck me in particular because I am a military historian and have been researching my books on the tank portraits. The identifier has mistaken the Hotchkiss tank from between WW1 and WW2 as the M4 Sherman.

The Sherman had a much larger turret, and did not have exposed treads liks this tank does. The Hotchkiss had a very small turret and the front of it's treads was semi-exposed. Also, the cupola (place where the commander sits when not engaged in combat) on the Hotchkiss tank is centraly spaced on the turret and the Sherman's cupola is located slightly to the right-side of the tank.

Keep on Civin!

cordially,
Lancer (civ fan of...7 years)

I'm sorry, but the Sherman tank sucked A$$ compared to the German tanks of the era. It wasn't until the 76mm gun was put on it that is was effective. After WWI American's put hardly any research into new tank technology.

If the units aren't Civ Specific, the graphics should be as general as possible.

At the start of the War for the US the Sherman was OK, however after the German introduced the Panzer 4 (88mm Gun) then the Sherman did not fair very well in head to head fight.
You are so right about research part.

One of the Civ 3 movie show that tank up close and it is the Sherman. The Artist drawing is off. Look at the M-1, it somewhat close to the real deal. Maybe they will change the Art before release. If you look close, you can see the VVSS system for the tracks.
