Ambushing
I don't know if anyone has mention this before but i think it would be really cool if you could ambush people . There should be a command where your unit goes invisible as long as you stay in one place. And anytime an enemy unit passed through the space your in you get an attack bonus. It was an important part in many historical battles.

Thats a cool idea, though it should be limited to certain units.

Good idea, a la JayBee's El Dorado scenario: Make a custom unit that is identical to a terrain square, such as a forest. It would look stupid out of place, but the human player could use it well. Call it a camo-guerrilla. Of course, ZOC would give it away...

Neat idea!

IIRC, there are no shields in Civ3.

As for the Civ2 camo unit, I have seen (with Fantastic Worlds) weird shields like flags instead of colors. I think I saw a fortress with no shield in a Napoleon scenario.

Neat camo unit for grasslands: the little tiny shield that appears as a bonus square for grasslands. Talk about stealth!

Another thing i think should be done is make the stealth fighter and bomber invisble to the enemy. I mean why call it stealth if they aren't even stealthy.

in civ2 shields could be made invisible in two ways. 1. moving the shield outside the square (editing the placement of the shield in the units.gif file, just put the two dots in the bottom left cornor). 2. put your unit graphic over the shield, thus hiding it form view. That's also how the flags were put there instead of the shields.
