Barbarians!
Will there be any change how the barbarians work in civ 3? Rather than having them pop up at random, it could depend on your culture value or something like that. Also, how about giving us the option to get a ransom or execute the barbarian leader? For example, by executing him your nearest city would have a population boom (nobody likes barbarians) but you will be looked upon badly by the other civs.

How about letting us play as the barbarians, like you could in civ 1?

From what I understand, barbarians will be in encampments outside of your field of view, and destroying these encampments will be like getting a goodie hut in civ2.

well, I hope they do more than generate the occassional barbarian unit. I want a HORDE to pop up if one of my units walk in to try destroy them.

History is full of examples of power nations whose military units set of to pacify the restless natives and instead got the wrong end of the (spiky) stick.

As posted at www.CivFanatics.com :

"Barbarians

The long-standing tradition of random barbarian attacks has been tweaked with the notion of fun and adventure in mind. The unwashed hordes now have encampments on the map. Destroy one and they will reappear where the fog of war is in place.

You can actively hunt down the sources of barbarians by hitting these camps. This allows the player to be proactive in dealing with barbarians, rather than simply weathering their assaults..

In Civ3, Barbarians have cities, like all other civs, and they originate from these cities and make raids. Sometimes building roads can be really hard because there are barbarians out there that constantly attack. Each time you destroy a barbarian town, it will respawn itself in an area of the map you can't currently see. So what you have to try to do is set up a situation where you can see as much of the map as possible so that you can keep pushing them back".

I, for one, like these changes.

Thanks for the info PGM, that's definitely an improvement over the old barbarians of civ 1 & 2.
