New CSA Chart
Before I start my first game, I'm changing the Civ-Specific Abilities with the editor:

M=Militaristic, C=Commercial, E=Expansionist, S=Scientific, R=Religious, I=Industrious

Aztecs - MR
Iroquois - CR
Americans - CE
Russians - SI
English - EI
French - CI
Germans - MI
Greeks - SR
Romans - ME
Egyptians - MC
Babylonians - MS
Persians - CS
Zulus - ER
Indians - RI
Japanese - ES
Chinese - SI

Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

Suggest that you look at changing the properties of the wonders as well

For the Americans I would say that you could make about equal arguments for being any combination involving E,C,S,I. I would say that I don't like E though because when America became a major world power the westward expansion was over.

Russians should probably be ME

English are a toss up between EC and EI

I think CS would be a better choice for the French.

ME or MI are both good for the Romans.

I'm not an expert of Egypt or Babylon, but I'm not sure if they should have an M.

I'm thinking the Zulus should have an M, again, not an expert.

I think RC is better for the Indians.

Japan should be ME.

I think the motto for CSAs should now be: "Damnit, we'll just keep changing it till nobody's happy".

Anyway, I'm gonna take 'em as they come. My civ is now the Persians fo sure.

I am just happy that they finally put in all 15 possible combos. Now the game will ship with a diverse AI. I'm glad, because now I won't have to alter the abilities before I play my first game.

However, IF I was using history rather than gameplay as my determinant, I would set it up like this:

Aztecs - MR
Iroquois - MC
Americans - CI
Russians - ME
English - CE
French - CS
Germans - MS
Greeks - MR
Romans - EI
Egyptians - RI
Babylonians - SI
Persians - ES
Zulus - MI
Indians - RI
Japanese - IR
Chinese - SI

But, it is really up for grabs, you could justify just about anything for any Civ if you go into detail, and that is why I would rather just have a more diverse AI.

Although i think the chart is good enough for gameplay sakes, technically egypt probaly shouldn't be M because they were isolationist up until the new kingdom and could care less about every one else.

Well, I agree with the change of the English to industrious - after all, shouldn't the inventors of the industrial revolution be the ones most deserving of being classed 'industrious'? It took around a century for the rest of western Europe/ America to catch up.

Commercial is accurate as well I suppose, but I fell industrious is more so.

the problem with civ-specific abilities is that in its heyday, each civilization was the best at everything!

In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Britain was very expansionist, industrious, had the best economy, the most sucessful military and was at the head of all scientific innovations.

The same goes for China, Eygpt, Rome, Babylon and all the others in their own golden ages.

And then there are some civs that were never real countries at all and so weren't particularly good at any of them - Iroquois and Zulus for example.
