That it is packed in tin case, has a couple of videos (making the game, and other in which Sid talks), and Tech tree poster.

Personally, I don't find that there is really anthing of importance in the limited edition. Uhnless the tech tree and manual (as rumoured) are only included in the LE.

Most limited edition games actually have something neat, diabo 2's had all the movies on dvd, a special ad&d version of the game, among other things.

i didn't buy that either, but the only thing i like about the civ3 LE is the tin box. which is kinda cool. but the rest? blah.

While I was at a military school reunion, one of my old company commanders who collected toys said to save the box. It is always a nice collector's item. I save many of the boxes from my old computer games along with the manuals, and I found them fun to look at and read. While the tin box is not a real reason to buy the limited edition of CivIII, it might be fun to get it just for the memories in the future.

The limited edition contains:

* Manual
* Game-CD
* Making of Civilization III Video
* Tech tree foldout
* 1 unique scenario
* Sid Meier's design notes

The manual is probably identical regardless edition (= DVD-case sized) - seems a little skinny to me, but who knows; maybe the DVD-case is twice as thick to accommodate the manual. One can only hope. A really bad solution would be a EU-style reduced skinflint-version of the paper-manual, with the fullblown version only available on the CD, in PDF-format.

The video comes in a separate CD-ROM. I expect it to be at least 60-75 minutes long. If its some kind of superficial 15-20 minute promotion-video, I will feel cheated & disappointed.

The tech-tree foldout? Well, thats nice - but they should add some quick reference-cards as well. Cramming it all into a huge SMAC-style poster is just as impressive, as it is impractical.

1 unique scenario? A 13:th one together with the 12 already bundled in the standard game-CD. Hmm - well, its better then nothing I guess.

The Civ-3 design notes is interesting stuff. But if its only a 30+ page booklet, they could just as well add it to a traditional SMAC-style cardboard game-package instead.

Thats puzzling me is that that nice big tin-box accomodates only one additional extra CD; a booklet + the tech-tree foldout. If the manual is supposed to be DVD-case sized, then theres lots of emty air in that big box.

Why havent they bundled the Prima's Official Strategy Guide?
Infogrames adds unwanted games like Risk-2 or MOO-2, but I sure as hell would appreciate that Civ-3 strategy-guide about 10 times more.

I have preordered The Limited Edition Tin and of course it is worth the extra money, come on, can you see it? Look at these great forums about Civ 3. The people are looking so much forward to have the game, and then they want to spare just a little money...

lol i know its only about 300 that post on the civ3 forums, but hey.. one can always pretend to be evil

huys, its not like its twice as much.. its only $10 more!!! its CERTAINLY worth it, even if only for the tin and the fold-out tech tree.

Someone can help me?
I would like to pre-order the Limited Edition but I wanted it translated into Spanish, so now I am waiting for the Civ III's shipping in Europe.

My question is if Civ III LE is already translated or includes an option to select the language.

Thank you very much.

I have another doubt
I heard that there will be only 75.000 Limited Edition Civ III, and I wonder if some of them will be shipped in Europe (more concretely in Spain), ¿Someone could tell me something about it?

Honestly, the only thing I am interested in is the fold out tech poster.

The other crap they can keep.

Difference between US and Europe. US still has those BIG cardboard boxes. That is what EU came in, and had a large manual.

The Box they sell in the US will probably be the same size as the Limited Edition Tin Box, if just a tad bit smaller.

There is enough space in that box for a large ass manual.

So where did this strategy guide rumour come from? And why is there hardly any official information on the different versions being released?

BTW, the guide at the end of the link looks VERY interesting!

One thing about costs. The LE costs 59.99 everywhere, but the shipping costs vary a lot. I shopped around and found EBgames (recommended by civ3.com) charged 35 bucks to ship it to Europe, while Amazon charged nine! The price difference on this same item is:

EBgames: $94.99
Amazon: $ 68.97

If you're going to pre-order, shop around. It pays off!

No prizes for guessing who is shipping my Tin Box

I wonder how they can justify the difference in shipping fees...

Does anyone know if ONLY the LE will have the tech tree? That's all I want, and I'd hate to pay $10 for a fold out. Ayone know if the regular version will have the tech tree also ?
