That was merely a minor temporary setback! They still controlled many armies and legions around the world...

One need only look at a map of France and Germany before, and after WW2 to conclude: the French have saved Europe from the fascists/Germans!

If you're using Windows, you have to go to the Character Map where you can copy and paste the special letters or memorize the keystrokes. For instance, if you hold alt and press 130 you get é, alt+133 = à, etc. Or you can go to the Control Panel, choose the 'English - International' keyboard and you can press apostrophe+'e' to get é, `+'a' to get à, "+'e' to get ë, etc. Although professionals might be better at explaining it than I:

How about the Americans?

"It's in Europe. I don't want to go all the way over there...Who cares anyway?"

...Several years later...

"Well, I guess since the war is almost over, we'll send a few troops so we can claim some of those reparations!"

You speak of WWI. I don't recall the U.S. claiming in reparations after that war. Could be wrong, but don't think we did!

However, after WWII, which we were instrumental in winning, we DID pump billions of dollars into Europe for rebuilding and to prevent the advance of the Soviets. So nyah.

But, given you are from Deutschland, I sincerely doubt you want to get into an argument over behavior during the World Wars, hmmm?

It's a common misconception that Germans don't like to talk about the World Wars. If your nation got all fanatical and unsuccessfully tried to take over the world, don't you think you'd joke about it just a little?

But I don't have time to get into an argument over the World Wars (translation: I don't know enough about them to win such an argument )

Even though Firaxis changed Chinese attribute from scientific to militaristic. I still believe it is still the best civ. You can play the civs you want, but I will pride myself with the country with the most culture.

Oh I know...I'm an ardent Deutschophile, and find German culture to be one of the greatest in the world. However, I also have no problem confronting honestly the role Germany played in the World Wars. I would not be so critical of them in the first world war--France and England share a great deal of the blame for that situation, as do Austria, Russia, Serbia, etc. It was a pan-European bit of carnage, and no one nation was more responsible than any other. But history is written by the victors, so Germany is usually saddled with the blame.

Oh, and U.S. President Wilson was ardently against the imposition of harsh retribution against Germany after the war, felt it was unjust and would only lead to further troubles down the road. But France and England didn't listen...

Cheers

During the redrawing of the borders, he also warned against the clumping of ethnicities together into countries like Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, but again they didn't listen...well at least Czechoslovakia split up peacefully. Wilson had the right ideas about Europe but I'm not sure if his domestic policies were as wise...I highly suggest you read "Lies My Teacher Told Me" (I'd tell you the author/publisher but I lent the book to a friend). It's a book about the errors in high school history textbooks. A nice historical read.

Probably the French, as that is my heritage, and their attributes also compliment my playing style.

I would play with any random civ without any of the specific abilities, just to get a feel what the game plays like without any special ability. i.e. to judge their effect I would prefer to start playing without them and first learn about culture etc. in this game.

I also usually end up beating the snot out of the French. They were quite obnoxious in both Civs.

Interesting spread on the poll As of yet, no one starting off with the Japs...
