Would I be emotionally stepping on toes if......
If I made a scenario about the Attack on Afghanistan, but in a satirical style? (e.g. Australian Civil War 1999)

It would be an attempt to highlight the futility and stupidity of fanaticism on both sides of the fence.

Good luck!

There's a scenario about the NATO airstrikes on Yougoslavia you may want to look at.

When you say something like "Don't make it tasteless" you might as well say "Don't make it." I think its been enough time that we don't need to take this so seriously. We don't need to kill our sense of humour.

Taste is overrated!

I didn't say that. "Tasteless" in my eyes is like making fun of such things. And if you're doing something satirical on this, you're in danger of doing that, perhaps unknowingly.

What do you look for in a satirical scenario that doesnt make fun of such things? I'd think it would go hand in hand.

If you can't make fun of things, you do give up your sense of humour. I could sit at home and cry all day, but what would be the good of it? I wonder when people will finally see humour again...

I disagree. Being satirical doesen't mean making fun of something. It means mocking something or someone. That doesen't always have to be funny in such terms. It in a matter of fact just points out something that isn't good or right, in a very open way. It is often done humorously, but doesent have to.
It's not as if I couldn't laugh about anything. I have a wide sense of humour, but there simply are things I can't laugh about.
Such as certain jokes that are recently told.
"How many citizens does New York have?
-Seven million and a couple squashed ("squashed" in German is used to shorten long numbers, i.e. 134,569 would become 130,000 and a couple squashed)."

That's not funny.

Yeah Jay, it's called "whippersnappers".

I really don't like the idea of making fun of the situation. I can see making a serious and realistic scenario about the strikes on Afghanistan. Personally, I think that would be cool. You could lead the Northern Alliance to victory over the Taliban with US aid or something.

But making a satire out of it just dosen't sit well with me.

This is just my opinion and nothing offensive has been said here, so i'll leave this thread open.

Yes Cliff, you read right, yo a$$ is mine!

Catch-22 was one of the best and most gloomy satirical books I've ever read. It managed to be funny, and yet point out issues and not trivialize anything. Reccomended reading for all. Could a scenario do the same sort of thing as that book? It would be very hard...
