Lords Of The Relam III
Take a look at this announcement on Gamespot. From what I've seen of this and other previews, the December 2001 issue of PC Gamer and the official website at Sierra this looks to be a pretty impressive game. I definitely will be looking forward to it!

Lords of the Realm 2 was a horrible game, and in general I feel that pretty much all sierra games are horrible, so I'm not particularily interested in this game.

I checked it out and they're adding religion to the game, looks pretty cool. It'll compete with Stronghold for Medieval RTS buyers.

I've got to agree with Osweld: Sierra has a really poor track record with strategy games. They always look like they should be great, based on the overall concept and a look at the rules; then you try playing them and they draw an industrial-grade vacuum. Exhibit A is, of course, Outpost (#1 on Computer Gaming World's list of the 50 worst games of all time).

Ah but Osweld was saying all Sierra games. Careful... I gotta itchy trigger finger.
I only say this cause I just love Caesar, and Pharaoh.. spent so much time wasting away playing those games.

Have you played Lords of the Realm 2? It's a great game! Granted Outpost wasn't goos, but that's ONE game. Can't judge a company on one or two games. Anyway, Sierra's the company publishing Empire Earth, they can't be all bad.

From my understanding pretty much the only thing good that sierra has made are adventures games, which I am not a big fan of.
Lords of the Realm 2 was a bit of a bland game, but what made it horrible is the combat system, where each unit would represent a different amount of troops, making it horribly unbalanced. For example, say you have 1 unit of 30 archers, and 30 units of 1 archer, the single unit of archers will only be able to kill 1 archer at a time, while the multiple units will be able to attack all 30 at once.
Also, it would of been nie to be able to design your own castles... that was always fun in Castles 1 & 2... infact, it was the only fun thing about those games.

After Impression Games successes with the Caesar, Pharaoh, and Zeus games I can't help but believe that LOTR 3 will at least have the potential of any of these games, and all of these were pretty darned good games IMO.
Definitely worth a look as far as I'm concerned.

If that was their only clunker, I wouldn't have said what I did. Just off the top of my head, there was also Outpost 2 and Birthright. LOTR1 was a little better, but still poor. It all adds up to enough bad experience that LOTR2 has sat for a couple of years at the bottom of my pile of games-I-haven't-tried-yet, because I just can't muster the will to invest the time on the off chance it doesn't suck.

Geez, you own a game and won't even try it? Wow, and I thought I was a depraved lunatic for humting through the bargain bin and used games for cheap good games. Speaking of, I bought Escape From Monkey Island for $15. Very good game. Just wish they wouldn't have thrown in a free mini-walkthrough that detailed how to complete every quest. Never, ever look at a walkthrough in an adventure game, you can't die so it doesn't matter if you mess up.

I'm looking forward to this game as well. I loved LOTR2 and liked LOTR1. I'm not really sure why some people here dislike it. I found it a simpler strategy game with enough thinking to make me happy. It had great atmosphere as well.

LOTR2 was the first game I got on my new computer when I bought it at the end of 1998. I played it nonstop for a month. My kids couldn't get on the computer at all.
And Pharaoh is the best game I've ever played - still playing it after almost 2 years (probably will do so tonight, in fact).
