SinglePlayer - MultiPlayer or in between ?
PLEASE SUPPORT THIS BASIC POLL BY VOTING
TO GIVE US ALL A VIEW OF THE MANY PLAYERS
ORIENTATIONS HERE AT THE LARGEST CIV-SITE!

Hi , my previous poll gave this interesting result when asking :

Do You buy CIV3 in expectance of a MultiPlayer-patch ?

Well , 42.86% would buy it with more or less expectancy
just as 42.86% didn't care about MultiPlayer-games (!) and
only a 14.29% would buy it anyway .... [details at bottom]
Total: 35 votes 100%
35 Votes is an extremely narrow representation of Apolyton
and merely gives you a hint at tendencies here ! That's why
I took the initiative to the poll above ... I was curious !!!

----------------[details of previous poll]-----------------------
Do You buy CIV3 in expectance of a MultiPlayer-patch ?

Yes definitely ! They don't want to disappoint the whole world !
11 31.43%
I buy it with patience . I'm sure they will release a MP-patch
but it will take very long time !
4 11.43%
I guess it's OK with me , if they don't .
I can always play other multiplayer-games !
5 14.29%
I like the game and I don't care about multiplayer-game-experience .
I'm the greatest anyway !
15 42.86%

Do you mean for Civ or for games in general? For example, I played Age of Kings almost MP exclusively, but it's possible I may never play a game of Civ3 MP at all.

I was gonna create a poll like this earlier, but I thought it might be a bad idea with the recent tensions. Anyway, I'm all for SP but if someone made me play MP... I would...

SORRY !
I should have pointed out that it was about TurnBasedStrategy (TBS)
CIV-games and that is for me including the disputed CTP1 & 2 and the
SMAC-ers ! AOK is also Civilizations , but RealTimeStrategy (RTS) .

I have made a typographical mistake in the poll ; I should have written :

100% MULTI instead of !00% MULTI .............

I voted 40% S, 60% M.

The reason is because lately I have been really enjoying SMAC play-by-email much more than just single player. Single player does have its advantages in that you can just play anytime, and for as long as you want. But MP has people for opponents, which can be a lot of fun, but these games tends to move a LOT slower. The other thing about the MP games is the diplomacy and, if you are so inclined, the RolePlaying that we do sometimes.

But I still enjoy both.

CIV genre by design is not a good fit for MP IMO. At least CIVII MP is not ( On-line MP is just too time consuming, hotseat and PBEM lack good diplomat. How is SMAC? AT least it ships with MP. Is it better than CIV2 MP?

Well, what I really want to say is people here play more SP only because CIV2 MP as implemeted is not good enough.

If Firaxis makes an online-world sort of thing, that would be truly amazing...

I think it would be too. But I am being carefully skeptical about Firaxogrames devoting that much development and resources (servers) into such a thing. I for one am not anticipating any great revolution for CIV MP, but hopefully some new things and a very clean MP system.

90 SP, 10MP,

Every once and a while I play TB MP. But really, if I want to play MP, I put in Homeworld and see who's online. I simply don't have the time or the inclination to play a game that last 10hrs+ in MP.

I know some people really want to make a big deal out of no MP. But I couldn't care less.

I've already pre-ordered Civ 3, and i've played a few times in MP.

I really hope that the MP patch for Civ 3 cames out very short after Civ 3 because i'm a maniac for MP Civ games!!!

Everybody with me: WE WANT CIV 3 AS SOON AS CIV 3 CAMES OUT!!!!!!

(i'm getting crazy very quickly about this)

I love multiplayer games, especially civ, but it's so much trouble to set it up, find someone to play with etc., and besides I don't have a decent Internet connection (yet). In fact, despite CTP was generally lousy, I had my best gaming experience ever playing multiplayer CTP over the Internet.. I actually laughed and laughed... all the plots and deals and broken promises.. the caht feature was of course essential. So if CTP can be good, just imagine how good CIV will be! Multiplayer is the ultimate thing, but it takes very long (you must prepare a stock of food and keep beside your computer) and it's difficult to find several people that can set aside 20 hours at a time. And in CTP I found that it was very difficult balancing the game rules in order not to ruin the game with too much waiting, i.e. setting time limits per turn, size and things like that. Hotseat could be an option if you just get a mate over to play a game.

I can't give an objective vote because it will depend greatly on how good the AI is. If its appalling then the game will be returned to the shop fro a refund before I ever try MP. If its terrific then I won't need to MP much. If its good enough to keep the game but bad enough to be uninspiring then I could be 90% multiplay.

80% MP 20% sp

sp is ok, but it gets boring after a while. i have more fun at MP despite the cons (turn length and difficulty at setting up continue times)

I chose 100% SP. If the AI is good, I don't want much MP. It's time consuming, and not that good. I might have been 90% SP, though, but I liked 100% more. If only the AI is good.

80-20% S-M for me. And that's probably biased towards MP because I'm hoping I'll enjoy it more than I currently do.

I think with the advent of faster computers and much faster and more stable internet connections a MP option in any game is essential for success. People in genral who don't like MP games either have slow computers,56K connections or a lack of skill in the game. To learn an AI pre-determined play sequence is about as challenging as using a calculater to do math in multiples of 100. Of course if your the kind of person that enjoys car racing alone, then MP is not for you
100% MP and proud of it!

90%-10% Sp-Mp.

I've never played a MP game. Didn't wanna pay for Civ2 MGE, just to get MP. But, OTOH, I will try MP for Civ3 when it comes out (if it doesn't cost to much ).

I voted "80% S + 20% M : Actually MP is interesting , but lacks certain refinements !" because I'd love to play multiplayer...but I can't play direct-connect (LAN / Internet) games due to time considerations, and I simply can't face the idea of another two-year-long PBEM.

Yin, I can imagine something...I'll be shocked and amazed if it happens, but it would make me so happy -- asynchronous server-based simultaneous turns. See http://apolyton.net/forums/Forum28/HTML/000343.html#5
for details.
