Ages
This is more an opinion question than anything else but do you think the Ages (or Eras) separating technologies will make the gameplay feel a little too much like Age of Empires?

Do you think there will be a big switch in graphics and other items from one Age to another - like the "thunk" when switching between Ages in Age of Empires?

The reason I ask is because the stream of time always felt fairly seamless in CivII and I would hate to loose that and have very distinct time frames rather than a gradual shift through time.

This is one of the few changes that I don't feel enthusiastic about. I can't see the reason for it. On the other hand, it may be that when we have the game running, it will turn out that it is needed to avoid some abuse.

There were ages in Civ 2 so it's not really a major change.

I think it may well be done like it was in the former one, you only switch age when you've developed certain technologies, not totally instantanious. ( for instance there were long debates on what techs were needed to switch cities from the rennisance graphic to the modern one - well....... debates. They stopped whenever people who actually knew showed up )

There were ages in Civ2... but they didn't do anything except change the icons for techs and twice change the city icons. Is that what you don't like, Donarumo? If not, do you have evidence that the age change will be as major as in AoE?

If you are thinking in terms of a golden age, that only boosts resources, and shouldn't make more than a growth/production surge. No big clunky graphical differences, I think.

No evidence whatsoever, I was just wondering if people thought it would be major or not.
