In civ 2 the enemy's production costs for units and buildings were lower than players. I'm not sure about this but perhaps enemy citizens were also happier (and ofcourse ai don't have to follow god-know-how-many-rules)

Im all for a challenge but 50% extra commerce and Industrial... wow... thats brutal. I think as an example in Civ 2, a Tank cost me 80 shields, and on king it cost the computer 70, on emp 60, diety 50. Something like that.

Well Jeff Briggs did say you will fall way behind the computer on Deity unless you have the Great Library. So I feel the advantage must be pretty huge.

in civ2 ai had unlimited range missles, and they didnt have to land bombers each turn (i had the same bomber hit me 3 times)

In Civ II I would see Fighters and missiles just sitting on the water with nothing under them! I hated that kind of cheating the most.

What I hope is that the cheating will be "limited" to production, trade, and science bonuses.

I also wish there was an option to turn the cheating off (without having to play Prince as I'm hoping there is more difference between levels than how much the computer cheats!)

How the hell were you playing? Where were your stealth fighters? Or mech infantry? They should have shot it down easily.

i was playing a very unique game, i was England on the meractor world map. i built my 3 cities on my main island, and didnt build any boats till 2000 AD. i was going for "my last civ2 game, three cities versus the world", with bloodlust on

it was a very scary thing to be working on electricty and seeing "Boston (American) builds Manhattan Project".

when my galleon landed in europe, i met the indians who took paris, wiped out the french, and had an armor staring me in the face.

the indians werent friendly to me at all, but the americans allied with me, and basically sold me tech. i took europe quickly, and met the russians, who were also getting beat down by the indians. they wanted peace, i said no. they offered 700 gold, i said yes. then i took Moscow anyway and they died.

and from there it got ugly, the indians have bombers and i dont have figs or sams, or radio to do the stupid airbase trick. so my rifleman defence isn't doing so hot anymore.

well its a little further in the game NOW, and i have figs bombers and rockets, and they are working on Futute Techs.

the Zulu own all of Africa and South America.
the Americans (now hostile) own north america.
the indians own all of asia.
the Aztecs were forced out of central america by zulu, now own australia and some islands.

and i own europe, loosely connected by roads (india kills all my settlers)

this is probably the most fun civ ever game me.

Interesting...So on Deity, the production bonus is that the AI will build the same item at approx 62% of the cost of the Human player.

If that is the case, seems the cheats were more extreme in civ2 than they were in the CTP series. And if that is the case, I would suspect that civ3's perceived difficulty will really be based on extreme AI bonuses.

I actually would like to hear some hard percentages from someone who is more familiar with the civ2 numbers, just out of curiousity...

I'm just wondering is there anywhere available huge or atleast bigger real world map for civ 2 than what shipped with the game?

Does anyone know? I really would like to play on bigger world map in the mean time before I get the civ 3.

Go check out this thread:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthrea...629#post561918

But here's your answer:

Here's the difficulty level chart someone was asking for:

Chieftan: 4 content citizens, AI build rate 200%, Barbarian combat bonus 400%
Warlord: 3, 120%, 200%
Prince: 2, 100%, 100%
King: 2, 90%, 50%
Emperor: 1, 80%, 25%
Deity: 1, 60%, 0%

I don't want them to all gang up on the human. The AIs never fought each other on diety.

umm...fighter is in mid air on your turn. Fighters in civ 2 have to end the turn at an airbase/carrier/city.
