If multiplayer code is found, please post
I know they are flogging this game as just single player but with civ II we found all sorts of interesting stuff, like the ability to play simultaneously.

If they are going to implement Multiplayer, the chances are the code is already there and maybe we can get it going. Please post if you find any.

Surely you can't recode something like multiplayer ability into a finished product. I would have thought it'd have to be something the original designers built in during the creation of the game/coding.

Am I wrong?

Oh yea of little faith.

Sure, we're wading through newbies here who do not know what can or cannot be done but if this lack of multiplayer is just a price gouging marketing decision then the chances are the code is there and it may even just be a case of activating it. Firaxis said they were working on it up to a point very recently.

Examples of past discovered functionality? PBEM for CTP II, simult mode for Civ II multiplayer. It can be done.

I've held off posting about this ever since they announced multiplayer was out

In one word, yes.

But in more than one word, I know of two games off the top of my head that had MP added in a patch. One is Deus Ex, another is the excellent System Shock 2. As for the code having to be there in the first place, that's a tough one to call. I'm sure no one imagined System Shock 2 the kind of game you play multiplayer (it's best played alone, in a dark room, after midnight, during a thunderstorm).

Of course, a FPS is very different than a TBS game. Dunno which sends more info, or how they do it.

Yes, Alexander is right, it could happen. But the chances are slim that you will find anything, although with the minds that are here at this site, considered joining to see, you might be able to find someting if your lucky

Only if someone can get it going. I hate to play alone.

I think I'll put the purchase on the backburner actually.

If it gets sorted so MP is possible it's an instant buy, but 'till then I just wait for the bargain bin...

Hope you coding genius' can figure it out!

Shadow

P.S. I was just about to upgrade my system for CIV 3 too... Ah well, sh!t happens...

Thanks for the insights guys.
Cheers.

We've already had that posted on this forum. Also, the part where it says the Civ3 CD is not found - that has been edited by the guy who posted it. It should say that the Alpha Centauri CD is not found. Thats what's so confusing about that piece of code.

I sure hope they are adding multiplayer soon. I don't know about the rest of the world, but out of 10 (exactly) known CIVers around here 8 said they won't buy it for single player.

Civ II blew in single player. SMAC blew in single player. Civ III might at best be mildly entertaining for a few weeks until people start to figure out how to always beat the AI.

Do you ever multiplay or are humans too much of a challenge for you?

Actually, the part about Civ3 and the part about Alpha Centauri are two different places.
