Stay away from Mutual defence Pacts!
AT least until you can find a way to break the bleeping thing. I'm stuck in perpetual game pingpong war due to a trigger happy ally.

Does anyone know how to cancel a MDP without declaring war.. geez!!

Yes it is... but i have no idea how you break it.. what to click.. same with breaking any treaty/trade.. The only thing i can think of is going to war (which is a bit silly just to end an alliance or to divert trade.

Maybe i'm just missing somthing or some boobs hired Neville Chamberlain to run th foreign office

In diplomacy there is an option at the bottom of the screen called "existing" or some such that if you click you'll see your current treaties. If you take away your defense pact from that menu you'll be able to renegotiate.

That's what I hated about SMAC. You would enter into a pact. Then your ally would attack someone. The only way to avoid war and not piss off your ally would be to never communicate with them. Even before you could ask them to end the vendetta, you have to decide whether to join their war or not.

There should be something to tell you who was the aggressor in the war. And if it was your ally, you have the option of declining assistence without significant harm to your alliance. It's a defense treaty, isn't it?
