Lumberjacking
Many of you are familiar with this tactic from SMAC. I've palyed with it a little bit after noticing I couldn't get it to work with wonders. I'm about to start a new game in which I hope to find out all the details. If you have any tips, please post em here. Thanks!

I modded my Civ3 so I get 20 shields for a cleared forest.

One thing that really helps extract the shields from the cut down forests is play one of the Industrious civs (like Persia). Their halved tile improving times helps out.

But I really like giving the forests a bonus of 20 instead of 10. Check out my Pre-Patch mod in the Creation forum here at Apolyton.
