Early on Fast Research
Im playing a game right now, Pangea, English, Warlord, 7 or 8 civs huge map. YOU MUST BE CAREFUL THAT YOU DONT WASTE GOLD ON RESEARCH. what are you talking about?

i scaled back my spending on reasearch and on warlord i about about to go monarchy at about 775 bc ish. and i did it by not spending more than 10 to 20 percent on research, and i have about 750 gold in the bank.

RAID THOSE HUTS!

Almost all of my research is done through huts. Now i always play large maps, and this strategy or just style i guess youd call it might not work on small maps, but i notice that if i have 2 or 4 or 6 gold go to research early on, that without library's it does not seem to matter if you jack library spending. Also,

Does anyone else notice that expansionest civs never pop barbs from huts? I guess i must have missed that surfing the nets.

give me some feedback, and ill see how this plays out.

Expansionist benefit - passive minor barbarians are friendlier.
